I suppose it could work the other way as well. If for example the captain gets a message advising the ship in a specific situation to shut off the AIS to avoid having to eat an anti-ship missile and fails to take action etc.
There are plenty of grey ships out there who routinely don’t transmit AIS, for obvious reasons, and have legal exemption to do so regardless of tonnage.

We run two 150’s and one running passive all the time. I believe you have hold the top three buttons down at startup to get into the setup menu.
