It has been. All of this was written about in every major news outlet in the country as it happened. I’m guessing you’re either, a) very young, or b) don’t read much. That isn’t meant as an insult. I’ve been reading newspapers since long before Nixon was in (I think I am, but I’m actually not a young man). Folks tend to absorb the things they want to hear. The strange notion that a country should be run like a business is compelling to a lot of folks, and that, I believe, tends to draw a lot of Republican votes.
Clinton enjoyed some spectacular fortune WRT the economy. It was a moment in history that he had little to do with. And, on the other hand, he made the spectacularly stupid moves WRT Glass-Steagall Act, and NAFTA, a huge sin against this country.
Eeeerrrr… I’m certainly not very young and I absolutely read alot. Not insulted. Just skeptical. The democrats could have cashed in on all of this in the last two decades. They haven’t.
NAFTA was a huge sin against Mexico, as well. I kind of understood that one to be a George H push though.
Running a country like a business is a polite way of saying you wish for a dictatorship. The modern CEO and the hand picked board of directors running a for profit business are night and day from a government with popularly elected leader and representatives providing for the defense and welfare of a large population of all ages. [The US Dept of Defense is for all practical purposes being run as a taxpayer funded private business now.] Government and business are two different entities with two different purposes.
I don’t care if a person thinks a government is ran like a business or not. But many publicly traded companies only care about quarterly reports & turning a profit. That is NOT how effective governments are ran. But just because companies & governments are ran different & have different goals doesn’t mean we shouldn’t hold governments accountable. Take the USCG, NMC & mariner credentialing for example. I & other mariners have been having horrible experiences lately. That little piece of the governments (& others) needs to be held accountable & tightened up imo. Compare them (governments & companies) or don’t but I think most middle Americans want government accountability. Anybody going against government accountability will lose middle voters imo.
Again, folks tend to absorb the things they want to hear.
Clinton made the mistake of seeing it enacted.
I think that may be a bit extreme imo. It’s not that strange a notion - People are held accountable at their jobs, they expect/wish/hope for clear goals and tasking, they deal with/put up with the usual politics, etc etc etc. Just taking a stab in the dark, here, but while they say that they want their government run like a business, I think they want their government…held accountable, clear plans and tasking, understand that there will be some politics happening…you get my meaning. All this screaming and finger pointing looks very, very childish and counterproductive to the average Joe/Jane that goes to work, does their job, gets on with it. Trump offered alot of people a clear plan, the Dems didnt. So, like it was said before. they all held their noses and voted for Trump.
“Who is Government” by Michael Lewis is a good book
This is exactly my situation. I’m forced to register as a Democrat, despite my willingness to vote for any candidate who seems untainted, and pro-labor.
I vote likewise but why are you forced to register as a Democrat?
Let’s get back to the more important and pressing question;
what to call the body of water to the south of USA?:
