It leaves us dumbfounded too. It was established when only white males who owned property [humans were considered property] could vote for a proxy voter to cast their vote for them. Only 6% of the population qualified to vote. So when people say the USA was founded as a democracy I know they don’t understand history of democratic government in the US.. Things have changed a bit since then but this idiotic electoral college thing remains. I do not know a single independent voter who is in favor of keeping that system.
