Tropical Atlantic Update Monday Sept. 13th

IGOR has become a major category 4 hurricane over the tropical North Atlantic with max winds of 130kts and could strengthen even more today before a gradual weakening trend begins. Hurricane winds extend outward 30-40nm while storm force (50kt+) winds extend out 50-60nm to the south and up to 80nm to the north.

Igor is forecast to turn more towards the west-north west after 24 hours then more northwesterly after a couple more days which will bring Igor into the North Atlantic shipping routes as a strong hurricane. Currently Igor is forecast to pass close to Bermuda this weekend then track north-northeast towards the Grand Banks.
