I checked Reddit to see what was being said about the M/V Dali incident. Maybe there’s a better thread somewhere but the one I read wasn’t much, had a few posts arguing if an anchor can be let go without power.
I looked at Reddit. What a mess! A lot of tourists and silly stuff to wade through.
However, there is some good information there about wages, screen shots of union contracts, and other company pay scales that should be posted on gcaptain. But you have to open a boat load of oysters for every pearl.
The technical discussion here is often much better. But the ratio of good technical professionals vs. angry-old-men-shouting-at-clouds, has steadily decreased over the past decade.
To be fair to gCaptain, reddit really isnt the best format for long drawn out conversations on a niche topic. But to be fair to reddit, you can really talk so much about diesel generators and anchors for so long without any new information from the NTSB.
Don’t intend to knock Reddit, I’ve had useful info come up from an internet search in other domains.
One good thing about Reddit, the upvote / downvote system is a good filter.
As far as the 700+ Dali thread here, yeah, not much benefit for people searching for or wanting info but if a few members want converse on subjects a bit off topic but related to a high profile incident not much harm in just letting it go.
