Yeah, PC 6 is already “okay” in this context, but I’ve seen someone describing a Finnish-Swedish ice class 1C cruise ship as a polar expedition vessel. That kind of ship is refused icebreaking assistance to most Finnish ports during a normal winter.
I spent several years sailing on a private R/V frequently doing contract work for WHOI, NMFS-Woods Hole, & USGS among others. I was amazed at how many PhD. Oceanographer types and grad students actually hated going to sea. Not so much the fisheries mammal people, but a high percentage of the physical science researchers saw their summer at sea collecting data as the necessary evil that allowed them to sit in their cozy office the other 9 months of the year and crunch numbers. It never made sense to me why they chose that profession. Just protecting some of them from themselves while they were on board was a full time job.
