Whenever I hear we should let private industry run government services since government screws up everything I remind folks private industry runs the government now. Congress and Senate, whether the current Republican or the previous Democratic, simply do what the lobbyists tell them to do.
They screw the taxpayer out of more than any food stamp or welfare recipient by a long shot, so let’s at least drug test them before we give them billions/trillions of dollars.
…that is not an American only problem but a worldwide one.
However, you should specify “the mainly government depending private industry”.
The essentially dependent industry, unable to work in free worldwide markets, has its lobbyists promoting (and paying for) a stronger protection of their ‘natural’ interests. While an independent industry is paying lobbyists for less regulations and open markets.
The first one inevitably leads to more expensive protections with finally a complete self-extinction, while the last one MAY lead to an efficient market… if the Lord helps a bit.

If there are more than two people involved in a deal there is no efficient market, eventually. Efficient market is a theory only and as long as people and greed exist “efficient markets” will not.

Interesting and well thought out perspective. Thank you.
