Anyone know who will need what security endorsements on their MMC?
Being a Cook, I would think I’d only need SA-VI/6 but I’ve been told I should have VPDSD-VI6
Doesn’t seem to me the Policy Letter really explains it

It depends on your specific duties on the vessel you will work on, that’s why it’s not in the policy letter, it will differ for every position on every vessel. If you are assigned specific security duties and will be on a vessel to which STCW applies, you need the endorsement after December 31, 2013…
Can you use sea time from domestic coastwise vessels to get the VPDSD endorsement? I have worked on passenger ferries and just did BST. Is a letter documenting my serving as VSO on these vessels good enough to get this endorsement?

You can’t get VSO but you can get VPDSD that way if you have the sea time
Yeah I figured I could get VPDSD. I will get a letter from the company and attach it to my application. Thanks for the help.
Can someone repost in this thread the format for a sea service letter necessary to get VPDSD?
Sorry to not give credit to the person who originally posted it… But I copied it and sent it to my company office to get one printed out for me. Here it is:
Re: (Name) (MMC #) letter of documentary evidence for stcw endorsement as Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties. (VPDSD)
In accordance with Policy Letter USCG-CG CVC Policy letter No. 12-06 (5)(f)(2) this individual has seagoing service on this vessel.
