South Korea locking down U.S. Personnel is B.S

Not only in Korea and not only US ships.
A US cargo plane heading to Thule, Greenland was diverted to Iqaluit, where the crew is isolated:

The story of gangway up order was covered in NPR Morning Edition today. Maybe the story is online. Perspective of “trapped” civmars.

Sympathize that the order is not being shared with all aboard, just looks sporadic. If I were on the vessel, would have no desire to go ashore . Just looks bad when others are allowed to move freely. And possibly bring the shit aboard. Defeating the whole purpose of “Gangway Up”

So it looks like the MPS-2 ships will start crew changes in about 2 weeks. Believe it or not…there will be a charter flight from Norfolk headed to DG. AMC will not book any mariners on flights to DG so Crowley, Maersk SLNC and PCS put this together. A 2 week quarantine in a Norfolk hotel starts in a day or two. Probably a quick stop for fuel somewhere in the EU then on to DGAR. Sounds as if the 2 day turnovers for sr. officers are being waved by MSC so the plane can fuel up and get back in the air. I don’t have the latest on the CONMAR ships with MPS-3. I know MEBA west Coast VP put out a letter to those involved and I assume the rest of the unions will follow suit shortly. This could end up being a legendary flight off island with 100-150 sailors making up the passenger manifest, celebrating their parole by consuming intoxicants:) No word yet on if this will be a once a month thing or every two weeks. Maybe when MSC gets the bill they will start running AMC flights again? I don’t have the latest on the CONMAR ships with MPS-3, it’s bit more complicated since there are different countries involved with travel to those ships. DG is considered a COVID-19 “bubble” with no cases on island so arriving crews will just go to ROM(restriction of movement) when they arrive on the ships. No liberty on DG even though its COVID free.

Patriot just called several jobs. I was told they are focusing on Dgar and Saipan first. Possibly using Guam for the Saipan ships. It’s encouraging but I need to get to Korea. Bringing the ship to Guam is an option but not sure that can happen.

Good news for some.

The coconut telegraph just informed me that the PCS head shed is meeting with MSC Monday about the crew change issues. Maybe they will find a solution to Korea???

That should be a rather memorable flight to DAG as you say. If I remember right, my son had at least 2 stops before DAG, and on the way back as well…With all this going on, there may be a bit of refreshments involved. More so for guys going home. Don’t blame them at all.

This. I didn’t like port visits in Korea one bit and you can feel that xenophobia just by looking into their eyes and seeing the disdain written all over their faces.

My adopted sister (now a four times grandmother) was abandoned on a street corner in Busan age three weeks, presumably because she wasn’t full Korean.

Did any coconuts possess any actionable intelligence?

1st chuckle of the day.

Nope. I am still chatting with the guys on the Korea ship so I will pass it on if I hear anything. Seems that the lines have broken down after the crews traveling to DGAR went into the hotel in Norfolk for their 14 day quarantine.

Early report on the DG charter is that it is a one time only thing. They have indicated there will not be a second charter flight…for now. It appears the companies are going to try and hold out until the June 30 travel ban extension date comes. If the travel ban is not extended by DOD than the AMC flights may resume.

A coconut I found had a message on it. It said possibly end of this month for Korea crew change. Not sure how they’ll deal with Korea’s 2 week quarantine.

Has anyone here done the 14 day quarantine in Saipan ?
I understand there are several sailors there now.
