I followed this to and fro for some time now and when I worked in Vietnam 30 years ago I thought the only advantages Singapore had was its Geographical Location, and its banking and legal systems.
My doctor is Singaporean and happy to be in New Zealand.

It had cheap labour and local costs via its low value currency and was well organised
Now it only has its geographic position which they have exploited, no complaints there but a port and airport have a very low percentage of local manpower.
Got a casino/hotel to bring in taxes its like 99% foreign workers and expats.

Many expats are happy to live in Singapore due to its unique taxation rules
( meaning no taxation unless an employee and only local income)
Not something an employee in Singapore can take advantage of until they have made it.
Then form a company and only pay yourself in dividends and as are exempt, so off you go, tax free, cpf free, invest and capital gains tax free.
Has the penny ever dropped as to why nobody wealthy has ever challenged the gov?
The PAP made it so good for them ( tax free) there is nothing to change if they were in power.
Poor employees are stuck paying all the taxes, lease home from gov, they cant get ahead so they leave.

(Cancelled business leases but has now renewed them till 2029, thats a typical first move when there is no real plan, throw out the businesses only to see them come back, that happens all the time in Singapore)
Tuas megsport, completion date changed so many times I dont think there is a date anymore?
( No complaints that its being built but on water I cant see how it can actually take all the ship traffic through that gap between it and Bukom island. I would of thought they will need to open more access to it?)
The gov loves announcing grandiose plans. ( Everything floating in the port will be electric) ( lng tugs will reduce pollution, yes but one gets built per press release)

Old farts who benefitted massively in the formulative years think the gov is god, Young dont see it this way, they were born into typical western infrastructure so no change for them. But they can see no more opportunity as Singapore prices itself out of many things.
Gov still dumps ex military into key positions, such a 3rd world cliche.
Its all about maintaining power.
Clear to all they dont have the skills.
Overseas university for many have opened their eyes to where there is opportunity so they leave.

Low birth rate,
its cost based and there is no minimum size apartment in Singapore so they are all getting smaller and smaller.
Isnt that obvious as a deterrent to having kids let alone 2 or more kids to replace yourself?

That is a very predictable argument from you when you don’t have any rellevant evidence to post.
I don’t find anything the present PM has said in his National Day Speech that give me any reason to disagree with him. As to the policy of earlier PMs I agree with the broad lines, but have some reservations about some that has effected me and my family negatively.
PS: What does PM Wong think about the “flower power days”? I don’t know if he thinks anything about that. He was born in 1972.

I was one too for awhile. Enjoyed the legal loopholes provided by the government for expats. They were needed for a period of time but it’s time for the system to evolve.
