Wow! This went way off track in an unexpected direction. I fear that I have single handedly ruined the day for someone.
I’ve been ruining people’s days now for over 5 years now and proud of it!

and YOU TOO MAY EAT ME VERY MUCH!
Didn’t they have that AB/Cook with 100 ton at Turdwater back in the day legally change is name to Captain*****? He was the guy who’d piss in the gallon water jugs because he was too lazy to get dressed and go to the head. I raised hell when I found out he was pissing in the sink. We shared a common overboard drain and none of the sinks had traps so the piss smell was bad in my stateroom. He claimed he had a medical condition that made him borderline incontinent diabetes or something. He even wore one of those little Greek fisherman hats.
What’s the big deal about a captain using a rubber stamp that says captain. He earned the job and the license I presume, why is he not entitled to the title in your mind. While I don’t use the title myself I could care less about the captains who do.
I’m not talking about the official ship stamp. This is a stamp that he made for his own personal use. Maybe it’s just me but I thought it was a bit much. Kind of like wearing a ball cap that says CAPTAIN across the front. It may be fine to wear around grand ma when you drop her off at bingo, but don’t wear it on the boat…or in the carryall…or when I’m around. Just don’t do it.

If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it still make sound?
Probably…I guess. Wait. What?!? Who cares?
I’m thinking about how nothing can’t truly be nothing. Nothing is something. Something can’t exist without nothing, so nothing is something after all.
Oh yeah! I have a whole new perspective of things. We start each watch by singing Kumbaya. Safety meetings have evolved into sharing time. Not just sharing past experiences related to the topics, but true heart felt stories and usually closed out by a soul searching epiphany. Sundays…let me tell you about Sundays…arts and crafts. I made a collage of my dog with rust chips and paint flakes.
Yeah I’m warm and fuzzy now. It was a life changing event. I thought I was dying but it turns out that green guacamole is good. Brown guacamole on the other hand, not so much. By the time I recovered, it was too late to turn back.
I have figured out that what matters and realized that-Jesus loves you. It’s everyone else that thinks you’re an asshole.

People that don’t have a little humility are unable to learn. On the other hand in some situations, for example with passengers, you want a show of confidence.
In the case of the OP just the card alone doesn’t tell us anything. If he an arrogant prick and the card is just an example however…
I think I’ll have a stamp made for me with only 5 characters on it…namely:

You’re on the wrong thread C.Cap, we’re not talking about tramp-stamps, we’re talking about stamps you put on the signature of a letter or something.
new contender for quote of the year
It’s kind of funny that when you call the Office a Port Captain will answer the phone Captain So and So but in all the years that I have been around this industry (and that would be about 45) I have NEVER had a Port Engineer answer Chief So and So. Makes one think…
I thought he got promoted to admiral or some such.
I worked with a guy that had Master ( his name ) on a desk plaque. Came to find out it was also on his mailbox. Needless to say his demands for respect went unheeded. We all know from experience who’s a leader and who ain’t.
