US shipyards are hot property these days:
Canadian shipbuilder Davie has set out to acquire shipbuilding assets in Galveston and Port Arthur from Gulf Copper & Manufacturing Corporation, a Texas-based company specialising in ship repair, construction, and marine services. The...

The planned acquisition would fulfill the commitment Davie made in July 2024 to explore a permanent presence in the US.
Davie already has operations in Québec, and Helsinki—the latter has built around 50% of the world’s icebreaker fleet.
Once the transaction is complete and contracts are secured, Davie plans to invest $1bn to upgrade and expand capacity in Galveston and Port Arthur.
The Russians got it figured out:

There’s plenty of pre-AI footage like that.
All those clips of large oceangoing icebreakers are of course absolutely not related to the topic.

The winter layup manuals for the river icebreakers, one of which could be seen in the original footage from which this AI-empowered abomination was cut, were also interesting reading. I doubt modern systems would survive being exposed to temperatures below minus forty degrees…

The Trump administration’s early ambition to revitalise US shipbuilding appears to be losing momentum, following the departure of Ian Bennitt, the White House National Security Council’s (NSC) senior director for maritime and industrial capacity....

Bennitt’s resignation, reportedly to pursue a private sector role, is a particular blow to the administration’s industrial policy push. His office was once touted as a cornerstone of the president’s April executive order, which aimed to restore domestic shipyard capacity and counter China’s dominance in the global shipping industry. But as of this month, five of seven staffers in the NSC maritime office have departed, according to The Wall Street Journal

Not surprising as US shipbuilding is not one of Project 2025’s goals. Trump appointee Russel Vought the director of OMB [deep state] is running that project within the government.
More interest in investing in US shipbuilding:

Looks like thinks have changed a bit lately. Now USA is receiving “development aid” and expertise from Asian countries.
Who would have believed that only a few years ago?
