Secretary LaHood Presents Award to USMMA Faculty, Staff and Midshipmen

WASHINGTON, D.C. , November 15, 2012 – CAPT Peter Kahl , Dr. David Dellwo and two midshipmen, First Classmen Nicholas Cerny and John Homola travelled to Washington, D.C., where they accepted the Partnering for Excellence Award on behalf of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Strategic Plan Steering Committee. “The Academy will see a lot of great things happening as the plan is implemented,” said Midshipman Homola, 1/C. “It was awesome to be part of the team and process.”

The award presented by Secretary Ray LaHood recognizes the “leadership and significant contributions in developing the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s Strategic Plan.”

“We are very grateful for the time and attention provided by the faculty, staff and midshipmen who participated in the campus surveys, campus outreach sessions, goal teams, and Steering Committee,” said Secretary LaHood. “The strategic plan is a reflection of their ideas and recommendations, and I am sure it will guide the Academy toward an even brighter future.”

The plan, which was unveiled by the Academy Superintendent, Rear Admiral James A. Helis, last August, has recently moved into its implementation phase. Helis stated “I am very impressed by the dedication of our entire Academy community. Most Steering Committee members continue to serve on newly formed implementation action teams, and working with their colleagues, are contributing in a very tangible way to the Academy’s long-term success.” For a full list of honorees, please see the following link: insert here

The implementation action teams have been meeting since early September to develop work plans to meet the recommendations and performance measures of the Strategic Plan. On October 26, 2012, an initial USMMA Strategic Implementation Plan draft was presented to Admiral Helis at a joint-team leaders meeting to review short, mid and long term actions. Action teams are already addressing activities in the areas of maritime partnerships, curriculum, service and leadership, accountability processes, external communications, Academy development, diversity, midshipmen health and wellbeing, and campus pride.

Captain Susan Dunlap, the Academy’s new Deputy Superintendent, will manage the day-to-day oversight of the Strategic Plan implementation.

Nah…I just had to serve that sentence the judge imposed on me for being old and nasty smelling (or was it for being nasty and old smelling?) but anyway, I am out now although I have run a might low on wiseass inspiration to draw upon at the moment. I do have some on order and expecting it to be showing up any day now. I will say that I am hoping and praying that LaHood is gone soon. I am truly sick to death of that pathetic assclown.

btw, it’s nice to be missed and all but now get back to work all you sorry assed sob’s!

also…anyone seen my brother? he was supposed to pick me up when they paroled me…

I have been for many years of the belief that when the USA abolished the draft the quality of its governance began going down hill. When I was growing up everyone was subject to the draft, it wasn’t a big deal but it was a fact of life. You went and did your couple of years, came home and went to work or school under the GI bill. Prior to seeking elective office the people governing the country went thru the same experience and during the draft they also were forced to go to countries outside the USA, be exposed to people of different backgrounds while in the service and gained other experience that they would never have volunteered for on their own. Such a situation does not exist now. Most of the people making the laws have never been in service to their country until after competing for millions of dollars to get elected. They have little real world experience. That these insular idiots we elect would think it’s a dandy idea to award USMMA for anything other than being an obsolete leech on the taxpayer surprises me not in the least just as when these geniuses sent young folks off to die at the drop of a BS rumor of ‘weapons of mass destruction’ was no surprise to me.
