Hello, I am having a bit of trouble finding out what is actually counted as sea time. I was working in Alaska a deckhand on a tender, the gross tons of the vessel is 368 . I’ve been needing help for a while now because I am trying to upgrade, if anybody could help that would be great, please let me now if you have any questions on what I was doing out there, because I know the uscg requires more than that sometimes .
Your seatime working as a deckhand counts. Make sure your letter says that you worked 12 hour days, so that each day counts as 1.5 days
120 (12 hour) days is required for AB Limited and AB OSV.
No harm in saying that but the time likely won’t count for 1.5:1 credit. It’s only for vessels authorized for two watches in 46 USC 8104, I.e. towing vessels, barges, and OSVs. See 46 CFR 10.232(h)(2).
Also, Fishing Vessels. Two watches are authorized.
@jdcavo makes a good point though, make sure that your seatime letter also says: "two watches are authorized on uninspected fishing vessels pursuant to (cite the controlling statute or CFR).
I got 1.5 days per day seatime credit for all of my 12 hour day fishing seatime with no problem.
Thank you, also when you send your sea time letter off to the USCG, does the letter have to say that I was subject to random drug testing? I was told that’s required. I was also working on a 500 ton ferry, I worked 8 hour days and would be on watch for about 4 hours each day.
If you don’t provide something that says you were part of a random testing program for at least 60 days you will need to submit a drug test. See 46 CFR 16.220.
