You have to be good-looking, etc. I joined June 1965 and left December 1970. Special services. Top secret. But we invited US/NATO/Warsaw Pact/USSR/Poland and little Finland 1970 to have a look at our performance. Sea mine laying. Under my command a civilian ship (a roro) was commissioned and converted into a navy mine layer in very short time. This little, small draft ship + 30 similar ones could load mines from small jetties everywhere and fill the Baltic, the Sound and Kattegatt with 100 000 mines in no time. Nobody could invade Sweden. The Russians and Poles liked it ⌠and never invaded. A US Marine colonel wanted - a stupid asshole - to know where we put the mines. Below your ships, was the answer. Those were the times. I had a smart, cute âmarinlottaâ to drive my car and me around and assist in all respects. But we are off topic - El Faro. She looks like some US Navy/MarAd failure to support in war and hide as a merchant ship in peace. What a rubbish ship!
Saving the world is only a small part of his accomplishments. Now he is trying to fool the world to top it.
If I hadnât looked at some of his crazy writing I would have thought he was a joker sitting somewhere in Sweden laughing his ass off that somebody actually take the time to reply him. But Iâm afraid he is a self-delusioned fool that actually think he can convert you to his views.
Well, him being a Swede Iâm not surprised, thatâs how we Norwegian have seen the Swedes for generations.
Ten thousand Swedes crawled through the weeds, chased by one Norwegian. http://dayviews.com/robinoberg/328260877/ Ok, waay off topicâŚ
what I want to know is how a person with obviously a degree of intellect can become so utterly obtuse and delusional to reality yet keep right on with their reverse think after many years of being told how wrong they are and that nobody is their friend? âŚ
What is this mental condition that befalls these men? Is it one that is somehow hardwired into their brains or is it one that develops over many decades? Funnily, I have often found myself asking that question hereâŚ
Sorry, if I missed them. Where are the pictures - external on the shipâs superstructure, internal inside the ship? Or were the ramps external on the quay? Only to the upper deck? No doors in the side?
I have only 50 years of experience of shipping incl. two years in the Navy. What about you?

Why do you think that? Donât you want to improve safety at sea? The shipowner of of El Faro is a joke. And you support it! I really feel sorry for you.
Are you actually disputing the fact that she carried vehicles? She was a ConRo- containers, plus vehicles loaded in typical roll-on, roll-off manner. 60 Minutes showed one of the vehicles as found by the search team.
And things have been so peacefulâŚwtf

Sorry - she was not a roro ship. Roro ships have (stern) ramps to lower on the quays so that trailers can load and offload themselves via them. The superstructure is one big garage (no bulkheads) with internal ramps to a lower hold and an upper weather deck. No bulkheads.
But this ship had bulkheads and holds. No roro!
And the containers? Seems to have been carried only on the uppermost shelter deck - three tiers. No, she was not a containership either.
But she had holds. So what did she carry in those holds. And how? And did she have any hatchcovers?
Very strange ship. Steam ship! Making 20 knots. What was the fuel consumption then? 100 tons/day? Sounds expensive. Who paid for that?
But maybe she carried veheicles on the upper deck below the shelter deck/containers. Doesnât make her a roro.
So what kind of ship was it? I really feel sorry for NTSB to cover up this shit.

Oh for cripes sake. I was a port engineer for a couple of years to government owned RO/RO ships, two of which were steam ships that could reach 30 plus knots. Two others I managed while there, were gas turbine RO/ROs. I know what the hell a RO/RO is, and I certainly know what a containership is, as well as what a ConRo is. Iâm not going to sit here in this thread and pick nits with you, one agonizing nit at a time. I donât have a problem with people who have reasonable and thoughtful questions, but you are a certifiable tin-foil nutjob who is clearly delusional and in need of talk therapy combined with medication management. I suggest you consult your physician for a reference to an appropriate specialist.

Sorry, buy a roro is simply a vessel that vehicles can âroll on, roll offâ. Said vessel doesnât need to meet your specific design criteria to be classified as such. The El Faro had ramps and vehicles rolled on and rolled off, therefore it was a roro. You have no grounds to argue otherwise and if you still fail to accept the truth itâs just cognitive dissonance.

Containers? Rolling stock? Holds? Obviously a ConRoHo⌠Sorry about the gallows humor, whatever happened was fast and horrifying.

Ainât that the truth.
Happy New Year, Cajaya.
The Puerto Ricans are gonna love to hear that the real reason commodity prices are so high is because a bunch of the ships in liner service to Puerto Rico donât actually carry anything.

You were working for MarAD? During some war the US Navy/MarAd chartered my container ship so I went to see them ⌠and their ships and to hand over my ship. My ship was clean and beautiful and their grey ships were dirty ⌠rust buckets. Like topic - El Faro! It is a pity that safety at sea is not a priority in the USA. Only security ⌠but it is also a mess.
I canât take this any more. My few friends are dying. Others I never met are dying.
You guys are going to have to forgive me but Iâve been crying ever day since that god damn ship sank and I canât stop. I canât talk about it on Facebook because my family is there. I look at their faces and wonder why Iâm still here, and they arenât.
Look at the pictures of the people who died in terror that day. Ask whatever god you pray to for forgiveness. Go on and be a better person in whatever walk of life you live. That life you are granted is not yours to govern, and can vanish in the blink of an eye.
youâre an insane dirtbag. Go fuck yourself. Call the police if needed, but they hate having their time wasted by crazy people.

You are wrong. A roro ship has a ramp/door aft to the main deck and internal ramps to a lower, single hold and upper deck(s). There are no bulkheads. A single deck ship where cars can roll on/off at the ends is a ferry. What this El Faro was is beyond me but letâs get a General Arrangement and Loading plan and we can discuss.
After having read the previous 100 + pages of comments on this thread I had to join GCaptain .
What I have noticed is that probably close to 97% of the people commenting on the El Faro have no idea what they are talking about.
They do not know how the vessel was constructed, they do not know the history of the vessel, they do not know how the plant was built or operated, they do not know the people that worked on her or the people that owned her, managed her and performed 3rd party maintenance on her.
It seems that a lot of people on here do not understand the loss of power versus the loss of propulsion among many other obvious statements of total misunderstanding about how a Ponce class Ro-Ro operated.
Truly pathetic. Typical sailors , always having to complain whether it is right or wrong.
