Sailor tattoes and meanings

Alright fellow brothers. I’m about to get started on my nautical sleeve as well as other nautical tattooes. I have a few I already want to get but really can’t find to much information on some. The ones I have in mind are the pig and rooster, rope, and swallow. Just looking for some other tattoos…

Can’t go wrong with an anchor…yeah a bit stereotypical and popeye-esque…but I associate mine with steadfast devotion. Mine has my first born’s name on it.

Forgot to mention the anchor. I plan on getting that with the date I become a captain in the banner.

I’ve got a compass rose and a cross.

I have a tribal tattoo that says “no rules.” Not really, but I like saying that.

I Always wanted to do some nautical ink but never did just in case I ended up driving a desk. Don’t think I’ll start now, but always liked stuff influenced by the good old days.

How’s about a tramp stamp that says “boatswains hole”

Get anything traditional by Sailor Jerry. I saw a guy once who had a mariners cross in the center of his chest with thick links of anchor chain around his neck like it was a necklace. If you get the pig and rooster on the tops of your feet you’ll also need to get the crosses tattooed on the bottom of your feet.

Although I never got one, I always favored getting a propeller on each ass cheek. . . . it’s a tugboat thing. . . . .

I’m actually doing the pig on the knee, and roster on the foot. I also plan on doing the cross’s but idk bout the bottom of my feet…

Sweet over one nipple and sour over the other. Than Micky and Minnie one on each butt cheek so when you clinch they kiss…in all seriousness don’t forget hold fast on your knuckles, sparrows for 10,000 nm supposedly

I stayed away from tattoos in general. When it comes to yacht deliveries, or other opportunities in that industry, tattoos will automatically take you out of the mix, for the most part. Not that I ever did much in that industry, but all doors are left open till I retire.

Although Cmakin’s tattoo should be ok, since it’s easily covered, I just hope the wheels did not come with the typical thrust bearings.

Shellback turtle.

But only if you crossed the line.

I want the holdfast on my knuckles, but I’m not fond of not bein able to cover my tats up. All mine I have now I can put a long sleeve on and cover them. I don’t want to hurt the possibility of not getting a job because of them. I’m thinking about getting them on my forearms.

Getting sleeved out is a game changer. Be sure you’re ready for the attention and constant judging of others. If you end up getting some really good colorful work, be ready for strangers to walk up and grab your arm…and start turning it to look at it. Smh.

Labeled “Twin screw” on one side, and “Full Speed Ahead” on the other…

Hello,

My name is Anja Buwert and I am working for a TV production company in Berlin (Germany). For a German TV documentary on tattoos I am looking for active seafarers serving on merchant/cargo ships or fishing trawlers etc. who would be interested in sharing their tattoo stories with us. We want to find out what traditional sailor tattoos mean to the people working on ships and how the designs changed over the years… If you know someone or if you have any suggestion who I should get in touch with, please drop me a line.

All the best to you from Berlin
