Renewable Energy Future

totally useless information

Yes Norway has a more ambitious target: Norway’s net-zero emissions target for 2030 too ambitious to be true? | Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global Change

It is true that Norway is a major exporter of oil & gas, but it is not the only export from Norway.
Nor is it the main income for the Norwegian Government.
The revenue from oil & gas is put into a “piggybank” (AKA “Oljefondet”) for a rainy day and to ensure pension for future generations.

PS: Only 3% of the income from this fund can be drawn every year used in Norway.

The “hypocrisy” here is that the emission from the exported oil and gas is not counted into the Norwegian emission, but i the countries where it is used.
BTW; The same applies for oil, gas and coal exported from Oz.

You are in a very fortunate position as opposed to other nations and can well afford to have an “ambitious target”.

95% of your power is generated via hydro and you receive an inordinate amount of annual rainfall……up to 3 metres at times. You are a relatively small landmass with a population of 5.6m. Your consumption of electricity per person is three times the EU average. Your electricity is cheap. This places you on the renewable energy moral high ground.

In Australia, we rely on coal fired thermal generation for base load and this is all about to change. The introduction of wind and solar has blown the cost of domestic electricity skyward and we now have one of the most expensive domestic power supplies in the world. This current left, woke, venture seeking and dishonest federal government does not understand the full ramifications of their actions. Some industrial sites are now closing owing to power costs.

I laugh at the individuals who truly believe that this is the answer to our woes. Clean, green energy……..not.

The last coal fired powerstation (in Longyearbyen) closed shut down on October 19, 2023.
The last coal mine on Svalbard shut down at the end of June 2025.

Mainland Norway has “always” been relying on hydro for electric power supply: The History of Norwegian Hydropower in 5 Minutes - regjeringen.no.

Power supply is now 98% renewable:

It is 100% on the mainland, with the last 2% being produced and consumed on offshore oil & gas platforms.
PS: Some of those are now also being supplied electric power from shore via cables.

The main contributor to the 2% is the plants LNG plant at Melkøya, and the gas processing plants at Kårstø, Kollsnes, and Nyhamna:

PS: Which is planned to be supplied by renewable power soon.

Maybe small landmass compared to Oz,(20x smaller) but large compared to most countries in Europe.

Australia has vast areas of land that is unusable for agriculture but is “drenched” in sun year around (especially in the north)
This is ideal for large solar farms, as have been noticed by some:

The “against anything new-crowd” doesn’t like the facts that there are people on this earth that can think ahead and dear to dream about a better world.

Well you continue to export your 120 billion cubic metres of gas and 500 million barrels of oil per annum, whilst standing on your moral high horse and lecturing we dinosaurs on the supposed silver bullet…sometimes referred to as renewables. Your exports should give us all a better world……
No doubt.

I wonder how you managed to dam all those wild rivers without upsetting the enviro-zealots? We try here in Australia and the Leftie greenies go apoplectic about flooding the forests and find some endangered, legless, blue-banded lizard that only lives in the new dam site or alternatively slap an application in for declaring the site a world heritage listing, or an Aboriginal sacred site (possibly where they ate babies, or where there was a song line of the rainbow serpent) and thus a sacrilege to dig a shovel in the ground.

One such famous case (Franklin River, Tasmania) even went to our highest court who, being judges and necessarily Lefties, found an interpretation of the constitution that had hitherto not existed, and now magically does which prevented the dam and hydro project.

Try this idiocy about farmers restricted to only digging 60cm before needing to employ an Aboriginal consultant to determine sacred sites etc.
