Are you allowed to take the gridded drafting paper in? I was going to use it to help with chart sketch. Good luck getting answers out of Miami
You can bring in yer Tracing or RITI Trace, as the case may be, it WILL be inspected by the evaluator. That and plotting tools i.e (in my case) triangles, pencil, ruler, yard stick, colored pencils. ANY other paper is scratch paper provided by them (Again, in MY case)[QUOTE=subatomicstang;101628]Are you allowed to take the gridded drafting paper in? Thank you sir!

In my case, RITI sent a blank trace directly to the REC for my LA/LB test.

REC Miami? Didn’t even know that was an option OR that it’s an option I’d approve of. I
would want to KNOW what I was gonna draw on looked EXACTLY what I practiced on, ya know?

The trace that RITI sent to the REC was identical to the practice sheets they sent to me when I first signed up with them.
What or who is RITI ?

They supply pilotage test charts to people studying for federal pilotage and to RECs (for a hefty fee of course).
Sounds like you were completely comfortable with the process. Were you compelled by RITI or REC/NMC to have the trace sent to REC? Your idea? Did you have any concerns? Whole lot easier that dragging it on a plane and hoping it doesn’t get damaged en route, fer sure. It was never offered up as an option fer me.

I was under the impression that I didn’t have any other options, but I didn’t question the process at all. I just went along with what RITI and the REC told me. It was the LB REC that I was dealing with.

I have never heard of gridded tracing paper being used. I have bought whole rolls of velum and made my own. Never had a problem or issue. It is up to you how to do the tracing, and the shore almond color. Everything else is blank and must be done completely in the REC.
Regarding the particular REC, it doesn’t matter where you draw. If the REC is not under the jurisdiction of the COTP where the pilotage YOU are drawing for it is SENT to the appropriate REC for grading. So, someone could draw LA/LB in Miami. But it will take longer to get results.
You ALSO won’t interfacing with the person/persons who WILL be grading/evaluating your trace/test. Seems to me yer better off going to the relevant REC. While MY particular experience TRULY SUCKED - if I had to go back and re-test ( and I did not) I would have learned what THAT evaluator needed for follow-on testing. Ain’t gonna get that testing somewhere else.

If you are going to take a pilotage exam at a different REC it is a good idea to at least phone the grading REC while you are studying to get the scoops on what they are looking for.
