qualified in what?

Here’s the Code - go for it!
LY3: the large yacht code - GOV.UK

LY2 (superseded) was more specific.
MCA_LY2-Mnng.pdf (29.5 KB)

they are yacht certificates not STCW/IMO ones.
( up to 3000t anyway)

My post to Hogsnort was tongue in check unless the skill of the guy on watch was to decide to sail out past the environment as that vessel cant deal with the earths environment.
But he was let down by the professionals in the industry that built, designed and wrote the manuals.

STCW, … just limited to Yachts (no cargo, max 12 pax)

However, note that the the Interim report - Vessel Particulars - states…
“Minimum safe manning - Not applicable”.
But they may have been “voluntarily compliant” with LY2 - we will see in the full report. Managed by C&N - good company who would probably have that requirement.

I love how the MCA sells it, its II/2 or II/2 but sorry only for a yacht so the holder is not qualified as per the convention.
couple of weeks in the classroom and your good to go.

You stay in your emotional rabbithole, I’ll stick with fact & reality.
Bye!

Do you think that yacht tickets and real tickets are the same thing?
Reality is they are not.
Just look at the college time difference.

Unlimited tickets here.

I assure you many yacht crew & officers i have worked with put a lot of puffed up bloviating ocean going know it all seafarers to shame with demonstrated skill, knowledge, professionalism and just plain ability to successfully get along.

I think the biggest problem is most people have never run across the professional yacht folks. They confuse them with the yacht club members at their local marina. I did a relief job on a what’s called a super yacht 15 or so years ago. My God, they would have been better off hiring someone from Geek Squad. I muddled thru and kept folks happy but it is a different world.

I have noticed that a number of masters of yachts over 80 metres have commercial licenses and some had a degree in hotel management as well.

Professional yacht crew are often very accomplished mariners with many ocean voyages to many places behind them.

Quite a few”hobbyist” yachtsmen are educated smart successful people in life, and very capable mariners.

At one time their were a lot of barefoot know nothings in yachting, but those days seem to be over.

A decent sized yacht nowadays runs 2800 GRT, is fully compliant and carries SOLAS trading certificates. A larger yacht now runs 6.500-12.000 GRT and is classed as a passenger ship.

Best be on best behavior for getting along as a skilled professional and team player or we’ll shift you off before your probation period is up. And yes, even time rotation, paid training and travel door to door. But hey … only yachties right.
