Prospective Student With Questions
NO…you have to be respectful

JUNIOR!
So sit down and take the shit thrown at you?
So sit down and take the shit thrown at you?
pretty much but if you’re smart, one never opens up their yap as yourself and paints that big red bullseye on their ass as you have so successfully accomplished
pretty much but if you’re smart one never opens up their yap as
I’ll give this a try

N offense bro but did u c. Capitain graduate from an academy? You seem to be hating on us young ones, we don’t have to apologize or take your shit just because we are young, you don’t know the potential whip has with in him, for all you know if he could be your boss in the future
You seem to be hating on us young ones, we don’t have to apologize or take your shit just because we are young,
Yes, you actually do if you want to participate here…so shut the fuck up, listen and learn from those who have already walked in your shoes decades ago.

respect the experience…PERIOD!

Rabble rabble Zzzzzz…

Nothing personal, but if you walked in our shoes and you had a bad experience or ate a lot of shit along the way and not you think it’s time to make us eat shit for aspiring and wanting to be leaders. If you are a leader or a commanding officer on a vessel you would know better, you would follow a moral code, you would treat others with respect. This is the 21st century, the person who has better qualifications for the job; gets the job. C. Captain with all due respect sir I think you make your self look like an ass when you try to put us down, if you are a mariner, you would no better than to hate on kids who wish to be as successful as you or better not telling you are a bad person, I just question your ethics …

you are such a child still master rofahy

someday you will learn and then grow to become a man, but that will be a very, very long time from now

I hope so I wanna learn from my mistakes, I appreciate you acknowledging it. How was it for you back in the day

But most importantly I came to this forum for guidance and mentorship from gentlemen such as yourself
Rabble rabble Zzzzzz…
hey rshrew…we still need to have those beers together. you around town next week?
But most importantly I came to this forum for guidance and mentorship from gentlemen such as yourself
Then you should have put much more effort on how you got started on here now…

True that but I had no idea how to get started, just asked a question and got out of control. I had no guidance but I guess know I know better but seriously it would be great to have a mentor

Any of you mariners ever serve on a cruise ship?
Any of you mariners ever serve on a cruise ship?
Oh god the freshmen who dreams of working on a cruise ship aren’t they the best. I have been on many cruises myself and i too wanted to be on a cruise ship when you realize that you would make twice as much doing anything else. By the first week of school being done your mind will change to Alaska the gulf, or deep sea.

What do you mean by deep sea?

Yes sir, been busy as hell but I’m around.

I worked is mate on a small coastal cruise ship. I am a hawsepiper and worked in to my 100 ton license. I worked there for a little over three years. The honest truth is that I loved the job. I actually miss it. What I don’t miss is the pay. OS’s in the GoM make more than I did there as mate. AB’s here make more than the captain there. I came down here and worked on crewboats for a few years and had to leave to be home for a while. When I decided to return, I decided to finish the license upgrade that I began when I was in the GoM before. I currently still hold the 100 ton master and AB Unlimited with all of the STCW add ons. I decided to start with a reputable company as an AB this time and do that while upgrading my license which will be done in the next couple of months and at that point, I will be making 4 times what I was on a cruise ship with more itc tonnage (but less grt) than what I am on now and twice what the captain was there. He actually no longer cruises either and we now once again work at the same company. If you don’t care about the money, cruising is great. Keep in mind though that you will have some pretty heafty student loans to pay off! I hope this helps.
What do you mean by deep sea?
deep sea= blue water

Container ships or long-distance tankers, basically.

Basically the only US-flagged “cruise ships” left are casino boats…which is basically a boat carrying people that want to avoid gambling laws.

there is only one cruise ship that is American flagged and that the one in Hawaii owned by NCL. I don’t know about TMA but here at CMA we have a class that talks about what you can do with your license, where the industry is heading, the history of the American Merchant mariners, relative pay in each sector that sort of thing.
