This is well worn territory but I’ve been told there are some print on demand charts out there that are finally using good paper that erases and takes a dark mark from a pencil. I just can’t find them. Does anybody know who makes them?
Get you one of the black pencils (used for taking tests), they have a softer lead for your charts. And, purchase a drafting eraser from one of the big office superstores. I think you will be happier than an itchy pig up against a picket fence. Let me know how it works out for you.
No problems with mechanical pencils, probably all about the correct lead for the chart vs correct chart for your pencils. My wife’s friend works in a big art store and has hooked me up with really cool stuff when I was drawing pilotage charts that helped me be super neat.
#2 Ticonderoga works for me! Don’t press down to hard. Blue Water in FT Lauderdale is print on demand and I will soon be a NOAA vendor.

The cheap Papermate Sharp Writer pencil is my favorite. I buy them by the dozen at Staples. The attached eraser will erase as good as the big white soft erasers.
