Pilot vs "paper" pilot

Just because you made 24 trips, and passed a written examination, doesn’t mean I’m gonna let you dock ships day one. In no way am I knocking the time and effort put into getting a Pilot license. Practical experience matters. Pay yer dues, do the time. Looking for instant gratification, look elsewhere!

Unless your dad or uncle is a pilot, then you can get instant gratification.

Did a SSO Harbor Pilot show up are your sub base looking to do their two weeks ADT?

What a joke…24 trips huh? If you needed 24 trips, you got scammed. Unless you’re that unspecific with your language and meant 12-round trips…

Not exactly… Just an observation about some comments made by some people that were not selected for a recent job opportunity… Everyone thinks they are best qualified… Can’t fathom someone else with real experience possibly applying for the position.

Once again a old say comes to mind. What is the Difference between a Pilot and GOD? GOD knows he is NOT a Pilot.

Most small vessels don’t require a Pilot…

Ah the semantics card has been played… Very well sir, you got me. 12 round trips / 24 trips… Post number one & my credibility has taken a shot across the bow! As you are a stickler for accuracy; each piece of Pilotage has it’s own required number of round trips, anywhere from 8 - 20, depending on numerous factors. Alas, I am confident you are well aware of them all…

I heard that same saying about anchor boat captains… Never worked with one, just what I heard.
