Pay Scale mate jobs in Gulf

I have my 3rd mates unlimited tonnage license and recently got a job offer to work on a boat (non DP) in the gulf for about 400/day. Im really wanting to get into the DP field and i feel that 400/day even though its not DP is still on the low pay spectrum as a mate? Am i wrong about this? what are some of the other companies paying mates in the gulf?

If your phone isn’t ringing off the hook right now take the job. At this point in your career experience is more important than the money. Get a little time on the license and a better offer may come your way. You can always pay for the DP intro your self if you want it that bad. This might sway an employer to hire you. Use the search function.

Have you sailed on that license yet?

That’s not bad for a new hire mate. Pretty close to what ECO starts mates at…

For a green mate with no dp 400 a day is about right. You shoudl take the job as the first one is the hardest to get. Once you get some stick time then you won’t have to hard of a time switching to a dp boat

400 is good pay for non dp. if you don’t take it, i’m sure a million other people will. how many sea days do you already have on the license?

I dont have anytime on my license so far so i guess this would be a good start and ill get alot of ship handling time as well…

As of right now I dont have anytime so this will be my first job. Figure might as well take it and get some experience

You have no real world experience, just because you have a big class ring on your finger doesnt mean you deserve top pay and positions. Be lucky they will hire you as a mate and not as an AB.

well done…good decision and good luck to you. Just remember to keep your nose clean, your mouth shut, work hard and do everything you can to act as if you DID NOT go to an academy. If you can do all those you’ll be fine and in a couple of years will be making some big $$$!

btw, not all that many years ago, I was getting $400 for being master of a survey vessel and feeling lucky for getting that! Took me three years to move up $50 a day!

Thanks for all your help guys Im sure it will turn out to be a good gig*
