Only in Norway

The fishing fleet is also ready to follow the trend by renewing their boats with modern machinery and equipment: http://www.smp.no/pluss/2016/12/15/Hydrogenbåter-til-havs-eldrift-langs-kysten-13936133.ece?cx_front_click=baseline_test&cx_front_click_place=5&cx_front_click_articles=2

Here is the latest Norwegian Factory Trawler: http://www.ramoen.no/
Presently trying to catch the quota of Cod for 2016 they will be fishing in the Bering Sea during X-mas and New Year.

Norway is not just and Oil & Gas exporter. It also export hydro electric power to the European grid, as has been the case for many years.
What is new is plan to act as a huge “battery” to store renewable power produced in Europe for use when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHEqQsv8AGw

Hurtigruten (Express route) has been mentioned on this forum many times. It travels along the West and northern coasts of Norway year around and every day, regardless of weather. (or at least they used to, until the consideration of tourist comfort became paramount)
Here is a link to a YouTube video of this “the most beautiful sea voyages in the world”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJla1JTOYSo
PS> There are some inaccuracy in the commentary and sequence of ports.

In mid-summer 2011 NRK, (Norwegian State Radio) produced their longest “Slow TV” program yet, following one of the ships on the north bound voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes in one continuous transmission. It has been watch by millions around the world, but mostly in shorter version.
Here is one that take 37 min. and only the bridge camera and without any disturbing commentary. (I recommend you switch off the sound, the music is awful): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uXzkNYsQfM

As you will notice there are more and more small boats appearing as she move north. It became a sport to arrange flag waving from the shore line and boats along the route as well as show and entertainment at each stop. (Not seen in this video)

The “Cowboys of Finnmark” are struggling against global warming and development to maintain their way of life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcmASa-OYto

Could they “modernize” their industry from herding to husbandry, keeping their reindeers in enclosures during the winter feeding them “imported” grass?
Or maybe growing lichens in heated sheds under artificial lights?

Is it worth it, or should they just join the oil & gas, mining or tourism industries that is encroaching on their way of life?

Any advice for the Samiis??

And since we are bragging about Norway, why not a visit to Aalesund and Sunnmore, the county around: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LFvxsrS7Bc

Or maybe you prefer Lofoten?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdKekgR-xT8

It doesn’t harm to broaden your horizon by learning about other countries and way of life.
You must have seen what happen when people lack any knowledge and understanding of the world outside their own little corner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsOz79MqEqo

BTW Nice to know that there is at least one person following this thread. Hope you enjoy.

That is hilarious

More in the giant echo chamber.
The Stad Ship Tunnel is progressing, but start of construction may now be 2019, with completion in 2022: http://www.tu.no/artikler/anbefaler-bygging-av-stad-skipstunnel-sikkerhet-og-framkommelighet-teller-mest/367600

Will this be an economical success? Probably not, but how do you calculate the value of safety and human lives, especially if no lives are lost because of greater safety?

The first Cruise ships chasing the Northern Light will soon be arriving in Norway and the 2017 Cruise Season will be upon us. Here is an outlook for this year: http://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/16251-cruise-norway-expects-record-year.html

PS> Hurtigruten is “Chasing the Lights” every day, year around;
Northern Light in the winter and the Midnight Sun in the summer.

Not as hilarious as Lilyhammer.

I’m probably one of the few in this forum who has been to your country. While I did enjoy my stay, I still wonder what’s in the water.

I avoided the water and drank only beer.

Yes I have noticed. It is a pity though that this now extends to the White House!!

what the fuck is lilyhammer?

Lilyhammer was a satirical show about a NYC gangster transplanted to Lillehammer, Norway and the differences there is between his way of life and that of the locals: Lilyhammer Has Been Cancelled, Here's The Stunned Message From Steven Van Zandt | Cinemablend

PS> Not dissimilar to the complications arising when you place a bundle of Coonas*es in Stavanger.

You should try the ice cold water dripping off the glaziers in the summers. Thousands of year old, from before acid rain was invented. In fact, you can drink the water directly from any brook, river or lake in the mountains without any worries.

But Hansa Pilsner is good too!!!

BTW: I alway laugh at tourists, in Norway and in Singapore, who are afraid of drinking the tap water, yet ask for PLENTY ICE with their drinks.

Thanks for the information. I mistakenly thought that this was a ‘world leading maritime and offshore website… dedicated to building an interactive community of maritime professionals.’ Didn’t realize that American cabotage rules applied.

If anybody on the forum should, against all odds, want to visit Norway, or otherwise learn to understand Norwegians, here is a handy guide: http://travelguide.nettavisen.no/42-things-every-foreigner-must-learn-about-norway/

Those awful Norwegians take little children to a reindeer slaughter house: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/01/15/a-norwegian-preschool-is-under-fire-for-its-latest-field-trip-to-a-reindeer-slaughterhouse/#comments

Will they have traumas or grow up to be vegans? I don’t know, but at least they will not grow up to believe that meat is somehow produced without killing animals.

And no, they did not watch the actual slaughter of the reindeers, or learn how to shoot. (animals or otherwise)

We do things a little different here in 'Murica.

We give children guns at birth…

Teach them gun safety…

Then teach them to kill it…

And prepare to grill it…

ROLL TIDE!!!
