Nuclear powered ships?

Need to charge your Super Yacht somewhere in the Arctic or Antarctic?:

Now if you can convince all the “stop CO2 save the planet” people not to go completely apeshit when they see this boat coming, we may get someplace

Yes those and those who see “terrorists” flocking to the Thor to somehow get material for a dirty bomb (or two) that they will plant in Time Square on New Year’s Eve for maximum effect.

So, you figure the folks who operate the NTS (Pacific Nuclear Transport Limited) ships are a bunch of snowflakes when it comes to protecting their ships?

Think about it Bug, there are few vessels that are softer targets than a yacht like support vessel that welcomes visiting ships. Or will E-boats with low voltage have to go through some kind of military like inspection and vetting before coming within a few thousand meters? Maybe they will have armed escort vessels and really long charging cords for their customers.

There are easier ways of getting hold of radioactive material than to try getting it from a ship at sea using low grade uranium as fuel in a sealed Molten Salt Reactor (as has been mentioned here before).

The PNTL ships carry nuclear material as cargo and has done so for several decades without escort, or incidents of terrorists attempting to capture the ships, or the cargo:

Not surprising;

Trolling again Bug?

No. Are you??

Yes, there are non-White rednecks. A visit to Guam would show you that.
And when I referred to science, I was referring to IQ studies. Many many studies have shown that East and some SE Asians have the highest IQs, followed closely by Whites, and then Blacks being about a standard deviation below Whites. And then, Australian Aborigines and Papuans have the lowest recorded, on average.

So yes, this is science, and something tells me the results of this science (aka reality) will offend you.

Sure, there’s many studies, and that’s great if you ignore the many critiques of the methodologies in those studies, and if you ignore the other studies showing that IQ tests are a poor indicator of actual intelligence. There were many studies “proving” phrenology back in the day, but that doesn’t mean any of them are worth the paper that they were printed on.

No it does NOT surprise or offend me. It is something I have known a long time, since I have seen this reported for years and have lived in S.E. Asia most of my life.

As I have said on this forum (and others) many times, I do not believe that race, religion or nationality is what decides anybody’s “worth”, or abilities.

I grew up in Norway in the 1950s and was told that Norwegians were the best seamen in the world, without a doubt. Everybody in the world knew and accepted that as a fact.

When I went to sea I first sailed with all Norwegians and started to have doubts. When I sailed with crews of mixed nationalities I fairly quickly learnt that that was a myth.

Since then I have worked with people of all races, religions and nationalities and found that yes, there are generalities but there are good and bad in all.

BTW; the studies show AVERAGE IQs, which means that half scored higher and half lower than average, so it doesn’t mean that ALL East Asians are smarter than others, or that Papuans are less smart.
Since the IQ test used is based on Western perceptions there is also cultural and educational factors involve.

If I was lost in a jungle somewhere, I would rather be with a Papuan than a Harvard Professor, even if the Papuan could not count further than to 5.

PS> I sailed with Papuan crews and spent a total of 3 years trading on both the (then) Australian and Indonesian part of New Guinea and the islands around.

That’s median, not average.

Yes, you are right.
I remember this was the subject of a debate here some time ago.
In any case IQ is not necessarily the same as intelligence, or being “smart”.

Does that make all Norwegians “above average”?, he asked rhetorically.

Who asked such a dumb question?? Everybody can’t be above average (or median, if you prefer).

Except in Lake Wobegon, where all the children are above average.

Yeah, and most of them are the children of bachelor Norwegian farmers.

Right! I’d forgotten. Well that explains it.
