So doing some relief capt work and the FF vessel was not issued a US cruising permit. Boat needs to move from one US port to another (coastal) after calling CBP for clearance to proceed they ask for cruising permit. Permission granted to proceed but concerned on arrival new port. Is this normal and what is the protocol if they inquire about cruising permit. (private yacht under 300gt)??
Is it US flagged or foreign? If its foreign flagged that might be the reason.

A cruising permit or license just streamlines the procedures, it is not required but you will have to pay the fees at each clearance. More importantly, are you aware of the advance notice of arrival procedures?
Yes and yes all aware of notices but was a little baffled by the non issuance of permit? Regardless CBP was very loose on my arrival notices and really even seem to care so much. And no fees were required! .??? Now USCG was a step even more down but at least asked the right Qs
Thanks All for your feed backs
