MSC mega container ship docking: near-miss or perfect maneuver? VIDEO

First time I ever put a ship alongside was an Aleutian freighter in Sand Point Alaska in the Shumagin Islands. A small ship but it was even a more extreme near-miss or perfect than this.

Came in at a 90 degree into about 25 or 30 kts of wind and misjudged the distance in the dark, pouring rain and glare for the cannery lights. When I realized I was too close put the wheel hard over and backed the engines. When I ran out on the wing (couldn’t see shit from inside the wheelhouse) the ship was sitting perfect alongside and the deckhands were putting out the lines. Had to run back inside to stop the engines.
