Miss. tax breaks for Edison Chouest questioned

Our wifi gets slow when we are underway. When people can’t skype in their room they bitch about the ‘slavery’ conditions they endure.

Yea but in modern times is having Skype and decent wifi too much to ask for?

The mere mention of them enforcing the phone BS to me is reaping what they’ve sown for the termination. I LOVE it when they are terminated because of breaking a very unpopular, but WELL KNOWN rule, but enforce the VERY UNPOPULAR but well know rule. Douche bags had it coming to begin with anyhow. A**holes.
Hahahahaha.

Oldest trick in the book for a down turn. Fire people for minor infractions. Keeps the company’s U/E premium from increasing.

Running around with a secret wireless router is not a minor infraction. If the company wanted them to have one, they would. Anyone who sails Deep Sea on here seen a copy of a contract that allows for wifi? Those guys got what was coming to them, what a bunch of hypocrites telling the crew no on the phones then hiding in their cabins and using illegal wifi

You can claim unemployment insurance as long as you weren’t fired for gross negligence.

I guess things have tightened up. In the early to mid '80s when things were cycling down, the first sign was piss tests on a grand scale. Then firings for minor shit. Then work ya short handed until you quit. I don’t miss it…

Yep. Remember this is the same employer that spent WAY over a million dollars on political campaign contributions the same year he decided after the fact not to match the peons 401k. Peons and their welfare are not high on the list.

Yea, I’d say that’s pretty minor…

and as a certain curmudgeonly old mariner often says “I FUCKING HATE THIS EFFING INDUSTRY”!
and as a certain curmudgeonly old mariner often says “I FUCKING HATE THIS EFFING INDUSTRY”!
I love the industry but have come to despise the system which not just permits but promotes those who benefit most by reducing the mariner to the status of indentured servant. I despise those lawmakers who trade the lives of workers for campaign cash. I despise the fact that this nation is racing toward the bottom of the social and economic pit because we can do nothing about it. I despise the fact that the people who will suffer the most are too ignorant or too brainwashed to see they have become fodder for a corrupt economic and political system.

Because the maritime worker is a tiny and powerless target we just see the worst of it first … by the time the rest of society sees the sword falling on them it will be too late … it probably is already. Read history folks … it shows our future.

I care a great deal about the welfare of every one of my Mariners. That money was well spent and will help the company for years to come. If I had put it into your 401k you would have lost most if not all of it in the down market this last year. So really I was helping you out and I’m sorry you aren’t intelligent enough to see it. When things pick up maybe I will put crew wifi on all the vessels. Then you can complain on your Instaface all day about your shabby treatment when you’re making $200k a year.
