Mind, body, and soul

We must have your mind body and soul for your entire carear here. Not just your mind and body on your on days but we must also have your soul.

If something happens while you are gone you are still responsible. You are not allowed to have true time away from work with out being bothered by the politics of the day.

The boat soap opera of as the wheels turn is your life. live it.

What was the number of that truck driving school?

Stop answering your phone. If they own you… it was your choice to sell. Sometimes people think that the boat won’t run without them, I hate to crush the ego but if you fell off the face of the earth today your relief would be there before morning and the world would continue.

I write this as I have spent close to 20 years with your mindset. I have worked 36 hours straight several times because I thought I “had” to do it. I am so much happier once I let it all go. It changed my life.

Good luck to you.

this stuff is too deep for me.

Politics, rebellion, and insurection are the words of the day today.

Redemtion, freindship, money are the words of tmrw.

Am I the only one that has no clue what’s going on here???

Hah! Mikey, I think you are among the majority…

But you’re not supposed to admit it…kinda like asking driving directions…

Oh, in that case…

They call us at home because they thinks it is easier than reading the operating manual before starting the job.
Let them figure it out for themselves… as the propeller turns. (and if it doesn’t turn they can put the anchor down)

to wit: a logical paradox wherein an individual finds him or herself in need of something that can be had only by not being in need of it

What if you turn your phone off for two weeks and have a great time with your wife and kids and when you turn it back on no one calls?

You wait a couple days and find out you have been replaced by Billy Joe Bob’s cousin. Politics.

Gotta eat man.

I don’t call the boat on my off days but i leave my phone on so they can call me if they have a question.

I tell them don’t bother me at home with the soap opera and they don’t.

But when i get back to the boat i get caught up pretty quick whether i want to or not.

A lot of guys that are secure in their positions say,“Piss on 'em. If they want my job they can have it.” How many job apps have you had to filled out lately?

Trust me it’s not fun. Having to sell yourself when all you want to do is put your time in and go home sucks.

Got laid off from my last job for lack of freight. That put me in with the hords of people looking for a job. It only took 3 phone calls because of my experience and connedtions to find another job but now once again I am having to “prove up” under another captain.

I understand the company doesn’t want to turn you loose on million dollar equipment on a whim but if you have been running the same type equipment in the same places for the last several years and have many, many good captains that can vouch that you are a good boat handler then is the whipping post really necessary?

I will do what it takes to put food on the table and as long as i am not being abused verbally. I go with the flow.

It is what is said when you are not around or in the room that sometimes counts more than it should.

I have always figured if the person listening to any negative talk does not give you a chance to explain yourself then they are not worth working for anyway. But try to find a decent job in todays job market.

So you deal with the coonass mafia or the good ol boys club the best you can and if you keep your mouth shut and put up with the bs long enough then they will find a place for you but you will still be a second hand citizen…that is until they need you.

that is when you get to dictate a few things to them. pay, promotion, better boat, ect.

Played this game many times before.

Let me ask you this though…

Do you consider yourself a man or woman of honor?

Would you write a bogus bad eval on someone just because you wanted to work with someone else or because you did not want to deal with a relief captain in the mix?

Seems like the right thing to do would be honest with the office and not try to ruin a man’s reputation on paper because you like to fly solo.

But if the office doesn’t care that you want to fly solo and are forcing permanent hands on you when you are used to using trip guys then would you chase them off just so you could get extra days in or would you be the better man and go to another boat in the fleet to make those days?

That would be the right thing to do, but then again if you go to someone elses’ boat you are not the hmfic anymore. You gotta do it their way.

For guys that are used to running their own boats it is much easier to chase guys off so they can stay on their boats and still be in charge.

This is my life lately. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

What if instead of putting the anchor down they just keep going without you and drop you down to whale poop status?

Would you take it. Quit?

Is now the time to be looking for a job?

Believe me i got plan b,c,d,e and ect lined up but filling out apps sucks. And so does orientation and being the new guy.
