Migrant boat driver hits police launch, claims moral high ground

A government law enforcement vessel in this instance would qualify as such. Would you write a cop a traffic ticket for obstructing traffic if he parked his car across the road to stop a fleeing felon?
I don’t see the collision being debated in court as a maritime rules of the road issue. Captain Rackete should have been held to account for interfering with law enforcement in the performance of their duties but it looks like the Italians decided to sweep it under the rug to avoid a spectacle.
The captain succeeded in making the Italians look bad while she gets off looking like a saint.
She’ll write a best seller marketed to snowflakes about being victimized by “the man” for being kind to refugees and end up rich as well as famous.

The captain of detained migrant rescue ship the Sea Watch 3, Carola Rackete, will sue Matteo Salvini for defamation after a tirade of insults from Italy’s anti-immigration interior minister, her lawyer said on Friday.

In the mean time Rackete has been moved to a safe place following numerous threats, Sea Watch said on Wednesday, a day after her release from Italian custody. While Salvini has insisted she must leave Italy, she is not thought to have done so probably because she has to be present at a hearing that is postponed until July 18 because of a strike by Italian defence lawyers. She still faces charges of helping people smugglers and resisting the authorities after forcing her way past Italian customs vessels.

Humanitarian group SOS Mediterranee says it has relaunched migrant rescues off Libya, seven months after it was forced to abandon its activities. The new mission comes after a standoff between Italy and Sea-Watch 3.

The Norwegian-flagged Ocean Viking, funded in partnership with Doctors Without Borders (MSF), is expected to arrive in the central Mediterranean at the end of the month. The 69-meter (226-foot) offshore supply ship has 31 crew members and can hold up to 200 migrants.

They should find some way to stop these vessels from facilitating the transport of refugees or migrants. This situation is almost as ridiculous as the situation on the Mexican border. The folks down in Oz found a away to stop it.

Interesting choice of word. Migrants, not refugees.

Is that from their web site? If so I would suggest the authorities use the description as evidence that ths is not a humanitarian exercise but is part of a trafficing activity.

financial terrorists is what they are and part of the money laundering chain financing terrorism

The Ocean Viking was not allowed to take in bunkers at Malta by the local authorities. However, they still have fuel for ten days on board so the next stop will be the rendez vous location at the Libyan coast.

The migrant asks: ‘When will the ferry finally arrive?’. The trafficker: ‘Which one did you book?’

‘Umvolkung’ means something like Replacement of a nation’s people. The T-shirt sells at € 40 and of this € 10 is donated to Lifeline according to the website. They are getting cheekier by the minute…

We require logical education as to likely outcomes.

Captain Carola Rakete is German born in May 1998 / Pretz / Germany.
What about Holland ?
And…She was not afraid “I made what i found just!”

The Lampedusa harbor is littered with abandoned private boats.

A new immigrant route is in existence for already some time with private, smaller boats from Tunisia to Lampedusa. The immigrants are mostly young jobless Tunesians. The number of immigrants arriving via this route at Lampedusa is said to be about 10 times the number of immigrants picked up from the Libyan coast by NGO ships like the Seawatch 3 and the Ocean Viking.

The local population is fed up with the situation and are protesting against the invasion of immigrants which they want to stop. They recently occupied the Town Hall to underline their grievances.

So what’s the problem? Like young jobless Algerians, they quickly adapt and contribute to Western European culture.

A new trend is that migrants try to cross the English Channel in all kind of unseaworthy contraptions. Needless to say that apart from this danger crossing the Channel is very tricky business indeed due to the immense traffic density.

The Dutch fishing vessel Z-182 “Hennie” picked up 19 migrants near Dunkirk, France from a small boat of about 4 - 5 meter with already 30 cm of water in the ship. They called for help and the Hennie was closest by and was asked to proceed to the boat and give assistance. Those people have no idea what can be expected at sea. They came from Iraq, a landlocked country and therefore with no knowledge about the dangers of the sea. One fisherman said that the boat due to the heavy overload was unstable with a freeboard of about 30 cm…

The sudden increase in refugees/migrants coincides with wars in the countries from which they came. Any country that starts, funds or supports that war should be obligated to care for those fleeing. There will always be economic refugees but those created by wars started and/or sustained by other countries should be absorbed by those same countries. Were that policy followed it would perhaps cause countries to stop and think before sticking their nose into other countries affairs

As a former Obama supporter who changed my mind in 2010, I’m curious if you held this position of who should be held responsible for refugees in 2010-2011 during the Arab Spring when Obama, McCain, H. Clinton, B. Corker & J. Kerry were advocating on sending untold amounts of money to rebels (including the future ISIS) to overthrow the governments of Syria & Libya?

UK’s Blair started it with Bush following up, both rich so all refugees should drop by their places

What gets me is the way migrants leave the place they came from, for the very good reason that it is a hole. But when they arrive at their target new home they bring with them all the culture from the hole they left behind. Yet it is that very culture that made the place they left into the hole they wanted to leave.

seems to be they move from places without welfare to ones with it

We had/have that problem where I live. There has been a very large influx of Central Americans in the last 15 years. When the trend first became apparent and problems started, the county made some changes to code enforcement. Sorry but 20 guys can’t live in that McMansion. You can’t leave junk all over the property. Parking 4 cars in the front yard, NEXT to the driveway? Not gonna happen. :grinning:

These weren’t huge changes, but they helped quite a bit. It did affect some longtime residents as well. I’m sure some of the local rednecks weren’t thrilled by the limits on junked cars on their property. Oh well. Overall it’s worked pretty well.

Generally speaking they move from places of chaos to places of order. Are there numerous unintended consequences, yes. But the feeling of nothing to lose, betterment of family over self, or near certainty of death is the driving factor.

yes some of that is true
the recipient county in most cases aiding and abetting the tyrants ethnic or religious cleansing project
the West is a soft touch which is why 99% of migrants dont stop in the first safe country they cherry pick.
No country needs more people especially skillless , they need productivity and reduced resource footprints, that comes with smaller educated populations.
