Master of Towing to 500 Ton Master

CFR 11.418 says one year of service as Master or Mate of towing vessels on near coastal routes and completion of a limited exam. Has anyone out there done this? If so what modules of the exam are required or where does the CG state the modules required for the limited exam?

Thanks

When I did this about 2 years ago I had to take 3 modules.

Rules
Deck Gen
Deck Gen/deck safety/environmental

I can remember how many question were on each test. You should go check out the 500 master sub forum tons of info there.

Thanks! Maybe they have it all figured out over there.

No one has looked at that thread in a couple of years so I haven’t gotten any bites on that post yet. I guess I will try my hand at calling the National Maritime Center tomorrow. Seems like if they are going to state that you have to take a limited exam they would state which modules as well. No use in studying material that you won’t be testing on…

The last post was the most helpful. Pointed me in the direction that I needed to find out what material to study for. Thanks for that. To upgrade from Master of Towing Vessels to 500 Ton master is just a matter of taking Navigation Rules, Deck General, and Deck Safety and Environmental. For anyone with an MOT this is a no brainer. Get it today before they change the rules tomorrow…
