MARKET TALK: Singapore Tanker Traffic in September, 2nd-Lowest In 2011

0728 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore’s tanker arrivals were at the second-lowest level this year, only higher than in the shortest month of the year–February; reduced sea traffic has depressed freight rates and reflected slowing economies. The port handled a total of 1,772 tankers with a combined gross tonnage of 52.70 million tons last month, down from 1,952 vessels and a gross tonnage of 60.34 million in August, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore; oil tanker arrivals were down 158 on month at 1,238, chemical tanker arrivals were up 2 at 386 and gas tanker arrivals were down 24 at 148. - by Max Lin, Dow Jones Newswires
