Mariner killed in hunting accident

Two mariners are out in the woods hunting when one of them collapses. He doesn’t seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy takes out his cell phone and calls 911.

He gasps: “My friend is dead! What can I do?” The operator says: “Calm down, I can help. First, let’s make sure he’s dead.” There is a silence, then a gunshot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says: “OK, now what?”

And now you understand why 911 operators need to choose their words carefully.

Oh, that’s an old one but nevertheless, a good one  Worked as a 911 call agent for a few months during my studies. I was lucky - I never experienced a situation like this.

Muriel, I did it for almost 2.5 years, part time. I wasn’t completely signed off of training when I took my first cardia arrest call. Had my share of interesting calls. Best thing I ever heard was my partner one night. She’d taken a call from a lady who was INSISTING we send the FD out for a cat in a tree, NOT something the FD does. She said “Ma’am put some tuna in a dish at the base of the tree, the cat will come down, HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A CAT SKELETON IN A TREE?” (CAPS for highlighting purposes.)
