While this budget cut, and subsequent funding are questionable decisions…I’m not sure they’re directly correlated. It’s hard for me to believe they literally said “we’re cutting the cable security so that we can fund DEI.” Like most things, politicians are going to try to get a stir out of the public.
But as all things have gone with John lately, he is going to make knee jerk politicized reactions to the fullest degree - regardless of the topic at hand.
I didn’t read where it said explicitly that they were cutting funding in order to fund something else. It said there wasn’t funding in the budget allocated for the CSP. Plus, $10M isn’t a ton of money to keep 4-5 ships on retainer. Subcom ships are typically booked up for years in advance.
Regardless, I get the impression that the truth of what’s happening with this lies somewhere between Lyin’ Ted and Sleepy Joe. Subcom flagged in 3 cable ships from Marshall Islands. We (the US Flag) now have 4 (5 if you count the piece of shit Zeus) deep sea Cable Layers at our disposal. Is that enough? Idk. But Subcom is a shady, shitty US company that is continually kept afloat by the govt for exactly this purpose. I’m sure they’re lobbying that since they have foreign flagged ships they can still do repairs on behalf of the US. I mean, they have before so what’s the difference?
Delta airline is dropping it’s “Ladies and gentlemen” greetings as “gender inappropriate” so, anything DEI related MORAD or any other government entity does should no longer surprise anyone.
I’m pretty disgusted and disappointed in reading this. Not in MARAD’s budget request, nor even in Ted Cruz’ disingenuous faux anger. But in OP’s lack of actual research into anything at all related to fact checking this claim.
The Administration didn’t cut MARADs funding request of the Cable Security Fleet. Plain and simple, black and white, easily verified.
Notwithstanding the fact that this “all of a sudden sneaky” supposed budget cut didn’t just appear (it was published in March), but it’s the exact same F-ing budget as the last decade!!
FY 25 budget has $0 requested for CSF. But guess what? FY 24 also had $0 requested. So did FY 23.
In fact, if you look at page 150 of the 2025 budget you will see that the request for funds has been $0 since 2017.
I don’t expect the Senator from Texas to be in anyway unbiased or accurate, but the head of the F-ing “leading maritime and offshore website” should be.
But how can the President have paid for cable ships without requesting funds? What does ENACTED mean?
It means this:
“46 USC 53209. Authorization of appropriations
There are authorized to be appropriated for payments under section 53206, $10,000,000 for each of the fiscal years 2021 through 2035.”
Edit: there is still the need for Congress to make a separate approproation, but how is it that year after year no funds appear to have been requested but money shows up?
Committee Recommendation from the FY2025 House Appropriations Bill introduced July 12 added $10,000,000 for the CSF. So it’s in there, just like last year and the year before.
John, get a sailing job and get away from all the BS that’s making you nuts. Chill out. If you can’t or won’t take a sailing job get off the pedestal for awhile. Chill out, I watched your video and you were barely coherent. Take a break man.
This. And is it normal for non-active captains that haven’t sailed in a long long time to always introduce themselves as captain? Holding the license doesn’t mean much.
Among other things, just because one thing is being cut (maybe) and another thing being funded (maybe), in an enterprise as large as the US Government, it is a VERY large stretch to say thing 2 was funded by cutting thing 1 unless someone in authority explicitly says so.
Do keep in mind these people are the same bunch that will happily throw the Jones Act right overboard
