Maersk Fires 5 in Midshipman-X Case

Lots of them on yachts. Many of them have cruise ship experience that transfers well to yachting.

Looks like you were right, not seeing many news reports.

There is this from Loadstar: - Deleted that link, was from last year.

The fact that this thread is going nowhere shows that there is not much interest. Evidently the change from suspended to fired is not in itself very newsworthy.

Disappointing, but yes, without a vessel name, a report, a Union reaction, there’s not much new on-topic to discuss.

I’ve been cancelled, by a guy quoted me of context and completely misrepresented my views.

Wow, I guess I hadn’t realized that being opposed to or a victim of sexual harassment/assault these days makes one a liberal snowflake…now I know. /s

Apparently, your glasses are foggy today. Clean your glasses and reread all of what I said, twice.

Don’t quote me out of context and misrepresent what I said. Who do you think you are, a MSNBC commentator?

I am opposed to rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment.

Assuming that what she says is true, and I do assume that, I want her rapist to be prosecuted and convicted.

I hope that she collects $$$$$ millions in civil suits.

I hope to hear that she gets lucrative book and movie deals.

I hope to hear that she goes to Yale Law School, so that she can become a very effective “victim’s advocate.”

However, if some young liberal snowflake happens to hear me say something like, for example:

“If your aunt had balls, she’d be your uncle.”

I don’t want to hear any complaints about it

I think you need to brush up on your history. Here is a speech by Truman in 1949.
President Truman delivers his Fair Deal speech - HISTORY

It is too bad some of his policies were not passed.

Harry Truman was a practical progressive in his time, but judged by the standards of AOC and the progressive left of today, he is very much old fashioned, and conservative.

The same could be said about Kennedy. He was very progressive for his era, but he would be considered quite conservative today.

Truman was elected to the Senate in 1930 as a “New Deal Democrat”. Some things like Social Security did not exist prior to FDR’s policies. Nearly all Republicans and conservative Democrats of that time opposed it insinuating that the program was socialist. Try ending it now.

I don’t by the way mean to take this thread of topic and apologize for heading that way.

I’m a Harry Truman admirer and wish we now had a President half as good.

I have the book: Truman by David McCullough. I’m sure you do too. Like all of David McCulloughs books, it’s excellent. The Path Between The Seas remains my favorite.

That’s crazy. I’m interested to see how this plays out. If all is true, they better be held accountable. Those kind of actions are completely unacceptable.

From an owner’s point of view, has the social media posting generation of cadets, especially female cadets, become too much of a financial liability and bad publicity risk?

Is it the cadets fault or the shitty people they employ?

I think you need to define what is a post that would cause harm to the company? I don’t agree with condemning social media, and what people post, to affect their employment. People do dumb things all the time, that isn’t necessarily posted on social media, so how can you draw a line? What people post in their off time, should be their own business, and they assume responsibility for anything they post. Now, if its onboard, most companies have a social media policy onboard (not sure if that falls into shore leave) but if that policy is broken, then there are negative consequences. Cant’ blame social media on shitty people. This incident had NOTHING to do with SOCIAL MEDIA, only shitty People

There are a few rotten apples in every barrel. No matter how much screening is done, getting the occasional “shitty person” onboard is inevitable.

Just as it is inevitable shoreside. Think of all the notorious rape problems with: clergy, coaches, doctors, donors, cable installers, meter readers, teachers, cops, prison guards, social workers, postmen, family members, etc. There are a few rotten apples everywhere. Always have been, always will be.

I’m glad somebody else saw that.
