Seems there was no mayday. Just EPIRB going off. There are other stories about the search this one is about the crew.
Earleir reports mentioned icing conditions - nasty. If that was the case, could have rolled and gone in seconds.

Icing is always the first presumed cause, usually the actual cause, when it’s blowing and very cold.
