License processing

I am still waiting. Will be 2 months in a few days. They keep saying they are still dealing with the government shutdown from last december.

Oh.
Wow…
Ok, that really, really sucks.
Mine breezed through the application acceptance, very responsive (Station Juneau, thank you!) but was forwarded to WV and is also stuck in “Received/Awaiting Security” waiting to be assigned is what I was told. Two weeks ago.

Mines been in Received/Awaiting Security since April 11th. Aggravating to say the least.

I sent all my stuff in after the shutdown, and as I stated before I got everything back in 11 business days. It’s so hit or miss. Best of luck!

I did mine also after it 10 weeks. It took 4 weeks for it to go from Baltimore to Galveston REC. I was not a rush as I applied 6 month before expiring.

Apparently the NMC and TSA don’t really communicate besides the basics. Having trouble and not getting anywhere.

On the webpage, my status updated this morning to “Ready to be screened MED” and apparently was in that status four days ago. They were having issues on the website, I know that. You should try the webchat, because they are very responsive on that, you get an email reply that day.

I called and spoke with them over phone. Apparently their system says my TWIC application is pending when in reality I have already been issued my TWIC card and sent them copies. I have been going back and forth with NMC and TSA with no headway except they keep saying it was sent to a supervisor. I just don’t get it. I have a TWIC card how can It say it’s pending? TSA says there is no issue on their end and to have NMC contact them.

Why don’t you contact them and ask for an email address? Then scan your Twic card and email it over. I’ve done it before when I forgot an item on a submission (be sure to include last name and Mariner or application #). Really sounds like you might want to hire a license consultant to help instead of banging your head against the wall.

That’s basically what I did today. Took clear photos of my TWIC and emailed it with name, DOB and reference number and explained it the situation. If it dosen’t go anywhere in the next 2 weeks i’m gonna hire someone.
But should probably start looking now to be ready. I live in fort lauderdale so should be someone locally.

For my application I scanned my TWIC and sent it in my packet (over 50 pages with seatime docs). No issue. I’m surprised it was forwarded to NMC without your valid credential, because they didn’t forward my application until all i’s were dotted and T’s crossed, including my having missed signatures on a document or two.

Photos of my TWIC were included with my packet. I sent it to sea school for them to review it all and everything was perfect. From what TSA said it’s an issue on their side. Which is weird because they get the security portion info from the TSA. Today has been 2 months and is still in the 1st stage of processing. Should of had my license by now from what I was told.

Did you check the “merchant mariner” box on your TWIC application? If you didn’t, TSA won’t share the information with the Coast Guard.

Yes. And on my TWIC card is a small propeller on bottom left side.

Well, that is your problem right there. If you only have a single prop, it has to be on centerline. Otherwise you’ll end up going in circles forever.

TSA Verified it’s good for the NMC. Everything is screwed up it seems. Yesterday my medical moved to ready to be screed, MED.

Update 6/11/19
Talked to NMC and the moved my medical over to “Ready to be screened”. They are still sorting out my TWIC.

Update 6/18/19. Medical certificate has been printed and mailed out.

Merchant mariner application is Still in the Received/Awaiting Security stage. Been 72 days.
Losing hope at this point.

72 days… jeez.
I’m 16 days into the renewal process myself. 19 days from when I sent it off.

6/20/19.
Called NMC and they said to call the TSA to get a TIN Number which pulls up my info or something. TSA said the NMC sometimes dosen’t update their system. TSA said my there is nothing wrong with my TWIC and is classified for Merchant Mariner, so no issues there. They said at this point it’s beyond them and up to the NMC. So called the NMC back and asked for a supervisor this time. He said he sent the TIN number to the security department and requested it to be expedited. If It dosen’t move to the next stage within 7 days or so I might just have to hire an attorney. From everyone I spoke with and all the schools they have never heard of an issue like this. I really don’t know what else to do as I should of received my credential by now.
