  1. I am not sure. In case of Dali lots of courts were getting into many things while NTSB report is far, far away from completion.

  2. MAIB as NTSB is examining the root causes of the accident as they declare in each of their report :

So theoreticaly item 2) has noting to do with item 1) as the latter deals with claims, apportion of blame, culpability etc, etc

Reuters quotes the prosecutor as telling the court, “For a period of over 40 minutes before the collision, the Solong was on a direct route for impact with the Stena Immaculate , which was anchored and stationary. There were no communication attempts from the Solong to warn of the impending collision and the Solong did not adjust its course or speed at any point.” end quote

Do not envy the poor sod. To be in jail and in the hands of UK court seems to be worse then Julian Assange in US court taking into account the present geopolitical set up and animosities. Noticed on Euquasis page that the number of PSC raids on this ship increased dramatically after feb 2022. Could be coincidence though.

Interesting though is one defficiency which reappears twice - namely UMS alarms.

Could be ( speculating ) there was o/b somewhat established routine /culture to cancel , supress, permanently silence, suspend , improperly set up alarms in the E/R which are supposed to show up on the bridge during UMS .
If in the E/R then why not on the bridge.

Noted, but…

… it will interesting to compare the conduct of this case & court proceedings (in UK Admiralty court & MAIB jurisdiction) with the Dali case, will it not?

navy fuel navy contract that’s the U.S. GOVERMENT

I’ve done claims of this nature between government vessels and private steamship companies.

why argue we’ll just have to see

…. All in UK waters…

The ship is “owned” by a single ship company of the same name. Standard practice among German ship management companies. By the time the legal eagles have taken their slice of the cake it is doubtful whether any crumbs will remain.
The USA has no jurisdiction in UK waters.

Vladimir Motin, aged 59 from Primorsk, St Petersburg, spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth at Hull Magistrates Court.

Motin appeared by videolink from Hull prison for a short hearing on Monday.

In the absence of a Russian interpreter to assist the defendant, Judge Mark Lucraft KC adjourned his plea hearing until May 30.

Motin, who is facing a provisional trial on January 12, 2026, was remanded into custody.

No iterpreter? |That is interesting . Well but to confirm his identity via video link was really something. And Crowley with the standard PR blah blah about heroism and allision as per LL.
Wonder who is buying time here???

In light of what is written in the link below it is becoming quite inetresting :

What are my rights if I’m a foreign national arrested in the UK?

Some important take aways fm the link:

  • Legal representation: Foreign nationals have the right to consult and be represented by a lawyer during the arrest and throughout the legal process.
  • Interpreter services: If needed, foreign nationals have the right to an interpreter to understand and effectively communicate their rights and legal proceedings.
  • Consular assistance: Foreign nationals have the right to contact their country’s embassy or consulate to seek assistance and support during their arrest and detention.
    • Fair trial: Foreign nationals are entitled to a fair and impartial trial, including the right to present evidence, examine witnesses, and challenge the legality of their arrest or detention.
  • Protection against discrimination: Foreign nationals should not face discrimination based on their nationality or immigration status, and their rights should be upheld equally to those of UK citizens.

The right to remain silent : looks like He is very silent

Thought originally it was good MAIB was leading in the investigation.
From the clip below it looks the case will be assigned a fast track .
Looks the investigators were busy bees warking day and night through abt 72 hrs to get ALL the details from the crew of the injured vessel. Pretty impressive. Is it not ???

From some outlets it looked Stena crew flew home on the 15th of March , the PH crew of Solong on the 18th of March. The fate of Russians seems unknown except of the master. Taking into account UK is unofficially at war with Russia I do not envy the poor sods irrespective if guilty or not. Criminal charge is a serious one so msater detention is nothing unusual.

However there is something else that is worrying but not related to above case what should give nonanglo-saxons crews something to think about so they know what discrimination is in places yapping incessantly about …you all know what.

DALI:
Incident : 26.03.2024
According to : CNN, CBS an Baltimore local news outlets ALL CREW was detained untill 24.06.2024 .Allegedly due to some visa problem .

24.06.2024 10 low ranking crew memebers returned home.

26.03.2025 11 crew of Dali remain in detention .

Comparing these two cases who is doing a sloppy job : MAIB in Stena case or NTSB in Dali case.
Tha hastily released by MAIB preliminary report indicates there is some urgent reason and stating that the 2nd mate on Stena took over the watch at midnight does not necessarily mean He was on watch till noon as per delivered by some participants here watch-keeping schedules on US flag ships.

Some other ramblings I will save for later.
