Leadership and the Maritime Academies

That is true but the thing that has always driven me nuts is once the powers that be put some under qualified crap manager in a position they are loathe to remove them. Makes no sense. If I buy an appliance for my house based on my best research but it turns out to be a piece of crap I try to get my money back, failing that I throw it out. I don’t ask my family to live with it until it dies.

Or the similar issue. "Would you like to buy product insurance for
a one year extended period ". No I thought I was buying a new functional tool, appliance that should have a life beyond the front door of the store.

Stores make 50% profit on the sale of extended warranties. Once you read thru the fine print you find the extended warranty is useless in most cases. It’s a scam.

Couldn’t agree more regarding “Extended warranties”.

I’m studying Marine Transportation at Mass Maritime and this post is a little alarming. I didn’t know that this was an issue, all the cadets and student leadership I’ve spoken to gave me the impression of great leaders. But I can’t imagine that the Coast Guard would churn out dishonest men. I can’t offer any real input but thanks for making this post, on my way captain I’ll be sure not to make these same mistakes.

Every proper business will put its best foot forward until they get the money in hand. Just like all large organizations, there are going to be knuckle-heads and people who enjoy breathing down people’s necks for no reason.

EDIT - that said enjoy the ride it will be over before you know it.

Don’t worry about it. Just watch how the ones you like working for do it.
