SSN is all about paying taxes for non-us citizens.
Yea I didn’t realize non-citizens could get a SSN as permanent residents or other types of visa holders. For some reason I figured the IRS gave non-citizens some type of alternate filing number.
There is always the chance that someone could be confused about their US citizenship status though. Like maybe born in US but lived entire life in a foreign country where they were a citizen.
Even illegals are given SSN.
Pretty much every east coast tug company desperate for entry level deckhands. Minimum requirements. I know we are short 8-10 deckhands currently and continue to hire guys with no experience, training provided.

Forget about.job boards, make phone calls or email any east coast tug company and you will not have an issue finding entry level work that could lead to quick advancement.
This thread is pathetic.
The entire global maritime industry (and especially the US side) has been in a severe labor shortage for many years.
This was an issue prior to COVID and heavily exacerbated by such.
There are opportunities abound.
If you cannot find work, look at the common denominator.

You are talking about USA job market. Yes, I am aware about the shortage in Maritime labours n USA and Europe. However, when you search about jobs onboard within those companies in USA or EU, they hiring citizens or at least PR.
The global maritime industry is dominated by agencies who recruit people from Eastern Europe, India and the Philippines.
People from a lot of countries have slim chance of working at sea because not many agencies recruit from their country.
Exactly, they are prefer to hire Indian, Philippines and Eastern European nationalities. Thus, we are seafarers from middle east and Africa struggling in order to find a chance, imagine that how many seafarers in Egypt for example they are driving Uber or working in restaurants.
Any chance where you work has a name. I am Mate 200T and fixing to increase to Master 100T. Went this route because it was best I could jump into at the time been looking for a company that would hire me in as a wiper so I could run engineering and keep hitting a wall. I would even pull an AB ticket to get in the door and get some split time if possible.
