How to Apply with Edison Chouest

I was down at Chouest’s school last month and had to go to the reception desk. There is a big sign that states they are not accepting applications. Unable to resist the urge, I walked up to the receptionist and asked her if they were hiring? I think I’ll call the coordinator and ask if the raise rumors are true next?

Back to the thread content: Not a good time to be looking in the oil patch. I see a couple people post that engineers are working 2/1 at Chouest. I would have to argue that as most have been forced into equal time. If you can get a tug job in NY, that would be a good spot for now!

Spoke with some people I know in ECO office last week and they said , looking for Engineers and QMED. they just hired 6 OS-AB/Cooks. So for the AB if you don’t mind cooking to get your foot in the door , go apply as a cook. About 3/4 of the boats at ECO are now even time.

any reason why they would be looking for engineers and qmeds and not advertising for it?

Only need 5-10 and they figure they can hire that many without advertising is my guess. I’ve told a few folks I know to go check it out. I get the " I heard they are not hiring"… OK tells me what you think about my word. It’s your money not mine. By the way, when I got off (3 weeks ago) they needed AB’s also. It’s not a AB/Cook thing only and yes you will need your RFPNW.

While I’m at it. Most of the boats are on 28/14. That 28/28 is so last quarter… As they say… Welcome to the oil field. LOL!!!

All I can say is if you want to work for ECO or any of the other folks come down and give it a try, if not then no skin is going to be off your nose.

Most of the boats are equal time now at ECO, maybe the crewboats are 2/1??? That I don’t know, but even the foreign divisions have been forced into equal time. As far as the hiring goes, the sign at reception stating “We are not accepting applications” speaks for itself. Monitoring the website though, they update available positions regularly.

If you have a license, just give it a try @ ECO… a lot of the boat from last month are still doing 28/14 & now things getting better (from Coordinators) some of the guys that were given a 28/28 are now getting back to 28/14. Some of the boats got forced to do 28/28 but not a lot. And that’s why they have to hire some crew because the boat that went to 28/28 is missing a lot of people like AB’s,cooks, qmeds & DPO’s. This is not what I heard, this is what I have experienced from the last two months that I worked on GOM & Overseas filling spots.

Just curious who told you that most of ECO boats are equal time…for the last two months I was filling DPO spots on different boats here @ ECO in GOM & overseas…a lot of the boats are still 28/14 & those crew who were force to go to even time are now going back to 28/14 mybe not all of them but 2-3 boats that I knew went back…ECO tried to go to even time but it was a dissaster because we are missing a lot of crew from wheelhouse down to engine room especially cooks…thats why they are hiring some AB/cooks…& now things getting better (as far as ECO) a lot of guys getting back to regular schedule…no more paycut and no more raise atleast for the next 3 yrs from what we had been told…this is from what I am seeing right now & freinds on different boats here…the sign that says not accepting applicants is true but if you have the right license & right timing Nicky will still hire you…i know it because I was there when he hired someone with the license…
