no son, you are absolutely spot FUCKING on and wise beyond your young ears…do you go to school with jetryder by any chance?
Ah c.captain I remember when you first called me a smart ass kid all those years ago haha. But no jetryder does not go to the same school as me I also believe he is two years ahead of me.

you’re going well and developing a first rate brain there son…keep up the good work and never fear to call BULLSHIT when bullshit is due. That’s my lesson for you tonight.
How many subs I’ve assisted years ago, without a missile defense boat…is this only in certain places? Does Chouest bid on their government boats too? Why doesn’t the navee buy those?
I at one point worked with a former coastie who was the screen commander for the whole escort operation and I will say there is a lot more going on than it seems.
Could they find out people to run the boats? Of that I have no doubt. However from the perspective of having an accident and putting any of the involved units out of commission it’s worth the premium to keep the same crews involved and keep the whole show on the road.
Same idea of when Genesis bought Hornbeck’s tugs. They threw huge money at the masters, mates and Chiefs to keep them with the vessels and maintain their level of operational reliability.

All I know is I hope Chouest screams like a banshee when they see this massive giveaway. I am frankly shocked that ECO didn’t pick up this escort vessel contract back in 2009 in the first place. Bet they wished they got it now seeing how much HOS is going to take away from this in the end. Will be close to $500M by the time it is done in 2015!

Well unlike Genesis, this time it is the taxpayer footing the bill for the massive GIFT to HOS!
They don’t do this in San Diego though, right? Have never seen it in Portsmouth NH. Or is it a new thing? Just in some sub bases, or certain ship classes?
Just for the missile boats, and because of from what I’ve been told some pretty actionable Intel found in some caves in a place that rhymes with smafhanastan
From my understanding, the navy was not happy with ECO from a previous contract. This opened the door for HOS but that’s a second hand story. The work for those vessels is a joke. If we “had” to spend the money, I’d rather see it go towards escort vessels for large passenger vessels. This seems to be more in line with terrorists thinking.
I’m sure when those boats leave the dock its awful. It’s not like the navy goes weather bound.
what happens on a government vessel stays onboard. If I felt like telling you what we do ,I still wouldn’t. Enjoy staying in the dark like all the rest.

or production platforms in the GoM! Imagine how easy it would be to drive a shrimp trawler filled to overflowing with ammonium nitrate right up under Thunderhorse? Suddenly all production in the offshore would cease overnight until they came up with a way to protect the platforms! They have standby vessels full time in the North Sea which I imagine also serve as a guard as well as lifesaving and firefighting? Why don’t we have those? HOS and ECO would make a fortune off them and it would be a huge number of jobs for mariners!

Standby boats used to be a requirement in the Gulf until the early '80s.
What part of top secret don’t you understand?
If I remember correctly from the job posting I saw for those boats, only a ‘Secret’ clearance was required.
That may be splitting hairs, but so much government waste, inefficiency and outright corruption has been covered up by being labelled ‘Top Secret’ over the years that some of us just don’t buy that line anymore. “We’re broke! We’re broke!” We hear, yet contracts like this continue to be made. Look at who DIRECTLY profits from this deal. Certainly not the taxpayer, whose name is invoked as the beneficiary.
Don’t get me wrong, I agree that that the boomers need to be protected, but the way this deal was done stinks to high heaven.
