Greenpeace Protesters Board Shell Oil-Drilling Ship to Fight for The Arctic

ahem senor Rigdvr…

Just curious…maybe I’m just used to you putting people in their place (usually well deserved I might add) on here that I read sarcasm into all your replies

so whatever…SIR!

Typical and proving of my point…take personal events and throw them on the forum.
Guess I could just cut and paste the part about not continuing but we know better…ahem.

You may have a legitimate axe to grind but it never comes off that way when doing so one sided on a public forum. It definitely makes you appear to be the lesser professional and makes one wonder if there isn’t a lot more to your grievance than the other guy being arrogant.

Did you quit Noble? They can’t be too pleased with you airing dirty laundry if you’re still there.

On the contrary my mon ami, I expect to get another brand new ship now…having already delivered one successfully under my belt for Noble and a DP certificate, I am a more than confident that I’ll be moving up.

Mind you too that I have not criticised either Shell or Noble in any of my posts nor have supported Greenpeace’s objectives (although I have declared that I think Lucy Lawless is awesome ;-). I asked to be on the DISCO specifically because it was going to be in the Arctic as I believe it is a true new energy frontier which can be as big as the GoM quite possibly. It is really a shame that Shell chose to not go ahead and finish the B1 to be the Arctic capable ship she was intended to be. If they had, the antiquated DISCO would be headed for some obscure and dirty backwater like the DUTCHESS is now. In the end, I’ll still get up north but just not this summer which is just fine with me. Plenty of years of exploration ahead up there.

Greenpeace Activists, Including Lucy Lawless, Arrested After NZ Protest - Police

WELLINGTON (Dow Jones)–The occupation of an Arctic-bound Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) drillship by six Greenpeace activists–including actor Lucy Lawless–ended Monday in New Zealand after police climbed the ship’s drilling tower and arrested the group, a police spokeswoman said Monday.

“The protesters are all under arrest. They are making their own way back down the tower, which will take some time. Once they are on the ground they will be taken into our custody and decisions will be made in relation to charges,” she told Dow Jones. Greenpeace also confirmed the activists had been arrested.

The activists spent 77 hours on top of the 53-meter drilling tower on the Noble Discoverer berthed at New Zealand’s Port of Taranaki. The ship was preparing to leave for the Chukchi Sea off the coast of Alaska where it is scheduled to drill several exploratory oil wells.

Shell officials were not immediately available for comment.

Can you imagine the security now that will be in place after the ship gets to Seattle? It’ll be like a fortress onboard with concertina wire around the perimeter, armed guards on deck, searchlights, guard towers, German Shepards and Colonel Klinkc__nell in [U][I]COMMAND!

Another Greenpeace ships, Rainbow Warrior just arrived in St Petersburg FL. I am glad there is nothing for them to f*** up here.
As far as the DISCO’s security plan…it is nothing more than a plain and utter failure, yet Greenpeace obviously had a good plan and one well executed! I have to wonder if they didn’t just waltz right up the gangway? I also wonder what will happen to the master on there over this as it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. If you read this Cameron, I want you to know that you not only meet but you vastly exceed your well established and most rightly deserved reputation at Noble Drilling! Your crew must really love to have such a standup all around swell guy as their captain. What an awful thing to happen for you but you know you are a tremendously capable master with exceptional skills so you can deal with this all by yourself…Enjoy your moment in the spotlight when they point the cameras at you…you’ll be every other captain’s envy especially mine. Ah for those 15minutes of fame.
When I was with Reading & Bates Drilling Co. our policy on how to deal with Greenpeace if they showed up was to invite them onboard. A confrontation with Greenpeace would lead to more bad publicity then just letting them make their little protest and then have the cops haul them off to jail. Roustabouts manning the gangway are not police and you shouldn’t expect them to act as such. The gangway watch should tell the Greenpeace activists that they are not allowed onboard but should not use force to prevent them from doing so. If they push past the watch, the watchman should call the Captain who will call the police and the company and let them deal with it. As cool as it would be, the company would not like a photo of a man in Noble coveralls in a fist fight with Xena the Warrior Princess floating around the internet.

You are criticising security of the rig but how did they gain access to the dock? I don’t think the end result would have been different if you or I had been there. I would not have used force to prevent Greenpeace from boarding but I probably would have tried to get them to occupy the conference room instead of the derrick.

Lets call the Syrian president and ask his advice on how to deal with these 7.

There’s something extremely inviting here. What it is, this old sailor just can’t quite recall… I can’t quite seem to put my fingers on it… http://search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt=A0oG7kcB6xNRLWcAl4BXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEyM2o3ZHA3BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA0RGUjVfODE-/SIG=13vgi5com/EXP=1360288641/**http%3A//www.examiner.com/article/lucy-lawless-sentenced-xena-star-fined-for-illegally-boarding-oil-drillship
