Have the recent tariffs the US has imposed on Canada affected the lakes shipping yet? Any idea from those involved about how this will work out for the ships?
I think Algoma Steel on the Canadian side of the Soo will take a hit until they can re-source their raw material from Canada; ore/coal/stone. They are in the process of changing to electric arc furnaces, so it may not be an issue past this season.
However, they do send a fair bit of finished product (coil steel) over to the US. Stone trade across the border might be re-allocated a bit too but the issue is most stone docks are on the US side other than trap rock from Thessalon, limestone from Meldrum Bay, and a limestone quarry that trucks material to just below Lock 8 at Port Colborne.
Time will tell…
You just have to wait until he learns not to piss on windward side:

Stelco in Nanticoke Ontario is owned by US firm Cleveland-Cliffs. And fed ore from the US in the form of taconite pellets. I doubt they will be able to source similar feed from anywhere else.
