First Tropical System in the Atlantic Forms

The low pressure disturbance that has been moving northward off the US East Coast has deepened into a Tropical Depression, the first of the Atlantic season. At 11AM EDT 1500Z the center was located near 37.3N 71.0W and was moving northeastward at 15kts with max winds to 30kts. Conditions are not favorable for any significant development, however, TD1 could reach minimal tropical storm strength during the next 24-36 hours before it starts to become an extra-tropical low.

A great and interesting resource for monitoring hurricanes of course is NOAA as you pointed to, but also check out the Hurricane Room on FriendFeed: http://friendfeed.com/hurricane. It automatically updates from several hurricane sources like NOAA, some hurricane blogs and twitter accounts, etc.
