[B]Oregon State University is looking for a First Mate for the 177’ Research Vessel Oceanus, based in Newport, Oregon.

[/B] [B] Minimum/Required Qualifications [/B]
Possess a valid Merchant Mariner Credential with the following ratings:
- Master, 500 ton Oceans or better.
- Able Seafarer – Deck, Rating forming part of a navigational
watch. Proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than
fast rescue boats (PSC). Advanced Firefighting, Basic Safety
Training, Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
Operator. - Valid Advanced Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) Certificate.
Current Transport Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
At least one year (360 8-hour days) documented as a Mate of a motor vessel.
Current CPR and First Aid certificate.
Current Passport, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
Meet United States Coast Guard drug testing requirements prior to start date, and for the duration of employment.
Ability to fluently speak, read and write English.
The ability to lift/carry/push/pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds up to 100 feet.
[B] Preferred Qualifications [/B]
Master, 1600 ton Oceans or better.
Vessel Security Officer Rating / Certificate, Current Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certificate, Fast Rescue Boat Rating / Certificate, Medical Person in Charge Rating/Certificate.
Research Vessel Experience.
