Firefighter Looking to get started in the Marine Industry

Hello All,

I would like to work on a large shipping vessel but don’t know how to go about it and what is need to working on them. I have a Twic and am working on getting my Passport. Would I need anything else?

I have experience as a Firefighter and Emt. However, I do don’t know if that is something anyone would be interested in or is needed at all. I have worked as a Laborer and have Construction experience. Would these help in landing a job?

If anyone could point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!!

Your best bet is to join the SIU (http://www.seafarers.org/jobs/ua.html) if you want to sail unlicensed, attend a maritime academy if you want to become an officer, or depending on how you define “large”, try getting into the PMI/MITGAS Workboat Academy (http://www.workboatacademy.com/).
