your post really helps make more sense of all the different kinds and what it’s like In a union. Thank you’ and I defiantly think that if used properly they help working conditions and improve life for its employees and it’s sad that we need them because the employer should want that anyway for his employees. But like most things if abused a union as well as a non union business can implode itself if it gets too greedy. I’ve worked for some people who are nothing but for being a great employer and they keep guys for thirty years because they are so great and I’ve worked for people that I didn’t make it two weeks because they were scums. Defiantly evils in both systems
Sure, unions can go off track no doubt.
Did you see that ship that was seized by the Iranians in the Straits of Hormuz? That’s where I sail. If you get in a jam somewhere the union will not be your first call but one of the first half dozen. One thing you learn in an incident is how the owners interests are not exactly aligned with yours. The union lawyer will help sort things out. I’ve also gotten cross-threaded with the C.G. Again the union let me know the lay of the land with regards to that situation.
You might think if you work hard and do your job right you will never have trouble but a lot of weird shit happens at sea.
