Van Oord is pleased to announce the launch of the new generation 10500m3 Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger “VOX ALEXIA”! The vessel was launched into the water on 2 April 2022 after months of construction.

The ceremony was officiated by Van Oord’s CFO Ms. Jolanda Poots-Bijl, together with H.E. Margriet Vonno, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Singapore, Van Oord’s CEO Mr. Pieter Van Oord as well as other Van Oord Directors and Supervisory Board members, and Managing Director of Keppel O&M (New Builds) Mr. Tan Leong Peng.

At the opening address, Mr Tan said, “The work and progress on VOX ALEXIA and its sister vessels VOX APOLONIA and VOX ARIANE reflect the extent and depth of the partnership between Van Oord and Keppel. We faced unprecedented challenges when COVID-19 struck, but together we adapted and worked closely to advance the projects.”

Four in a row! Rainbowing:

Boskalis has been successfully carrying out beach and foreshore nourishment for decades to strengthen coastlines in Europe. We are currently carrying out this work on the Wadden island of Texel and off the coast of Noordwijk and in the spring of 2023 on the beach of Ameland. Our four sister ships CAUSEWAY, FREEWAY, SHOALWAY and STRANDWAY play a very important role in this. Usually they work alone or in pairs, but last week all four (!) hopper dredgers joined forces off the coast near Noordwijk. We captured this special moment in these beautiful photo. We wish the crews of the CAUSEWAY, FREEWAY, SHOALWAY and STRANDWAY and the project staff every success with the implementation of the replenishments.

Here you can see why it is called “Rainbowing”:

Oh yea, the Dutch would like nothing more than the suspension of the Jones Act so they could operate dredges in the US! During the Deepwater Horizon Incident several Dutch companies tried to sell the idea of building a series of barrier islands to keep the oil from coming ashore. A similar proposal was discussed in New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy (we spent 2 years rebuilding the beaches in NJ after that storm!). Fortunately (for us!) the Jones Act is here to stay!
