Deepwater Horizon - Transocean Oil Rig Fire

Report from Adm Allen : bop will be replaced http://blog.al.com/live/2010/08/bp_to_replace_blowout_prevente.html

Cm1 we sure miss your insight… Please come visit us. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al9WmowJ3bQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPkwm8a1kBU

There is just nothing like a New Orleans girl to pick the right thing to say. Come on Cm1, you gotta be at least tempted. Cause those underwater wizards are either doing real good, or hiding a bunch of stuff. Guys like you help the rest of us see the light.

Just wanted to say goodbye and thanks to everyone here for the enlightenment and for putting up with my blathering.

And for anyone in the business, I strongly recommend taking an hour or two and reading Part 3-The Macondo Well at:

Moose, that is tooo cool, thankssssss If there’s such a thing, as reincarnation,I wanna be a mermaid…< and pose for the rov , when he gets bored> lol
OK, so now we have vastly degraded ROV feeds
This started a couple of weeks (or more) ago. My best guess is they don’t want other knowledgeable people watching what they are doing.

I am starting to wonder if there is a larger reservoir below the 60 ft payzone that has been talked about openly.

One thing I am convinced of, is there is a whole lot more going on here than “they” want to tell us. It has to be “big” for the government to be complicit to the degree that it is in Thad Allen’s behavior. To not have any press conferences after the cementing over the weekend, to deliberately degrade the ROV feeds, to not show the BOP anymore, to have 3 or 4 ROV’s watching the same patch of seafloor constantly, to have 2 or 3 “rogue” ROV’s with no public feed… just does not add up.

If things are how you BP and USCG say they are, what about a little TRANSPARENCY to back up your claims?
I’m wondering similar things bigmoose… 2 and 2 aren’t adding up to 4.
WTF doesn’t begin to cover it. I hate the dramatic presentation, but really, what IS going on in this video?

The silence here is freakin me out.
Looks like “dust clouds” generated from the ROV thrusters or maybe the umbilical.

Alf, I believe, that rov video, was certainly misinterpreted, sensationalism is putting it mildly.

…some lazy bubbles bigmoose. Their round appearance suggests they are oil. … but where are they coming from?

ALERT BP says 40 percent of cement went “into the FORMATION and the rest remained in the casing” (VIDEO)
August 7th, 2010 at 06:28 PM
Share1034retweetBP’s Senior Vice President Kent Wells Technical briefing, August 6, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. EDT:

Jacquetta White: How much cement was pumped into the well…?

Kent Wells: We pumped just a little over 500 barrels of cement down the casing. We talked — I think it was roughly about 200 barrels into the formation and the rest remained in the casing.
There was no further elaboration by Mr. Wells. However, several reports have pondered the ramifications of materials escaping from the well into the surrounding formation.

Times-Picayune reported: “A seep of hydrocarbons could indicate that a fissure somewhere in the underground portion of the well could be letting oil or gas escape into the rock formation surrounding the well. A leak outside of the well would make it harder for responders to contain the oil and gas and could complicate the completion of the relief well.”

Wall Street Journal reported: “BP PLC has concluded that its “top-kill” attempt last week to seal its broken well in the Gulf of Mexico may have failed due to a malfunctioning disk inside the well about 1,000 feet below the ocean floor… The broken disk may have prevented the heavy drilling mud injected into the well last week from getting far enough down the well to overcome the pressure from the escaping oil and gas, people familiar with BP’s findings said. They said much of the drilling mud may also have escaped from the well into the rock formation outside the wellbore.

Houston Chronicle reported: “Well casing believed to have been damaged during the original blowout could create areas where the relief mud can escape into the rock formation creating a dangerous drop in pressure. ”

NOLA, if I may, this is not something anyone of us would really want to experience for ourselves… no matter how much we might practise and do drills for these events, when it comes to the real crunch (drastically in this case) … then there’s no real way of knowing how you will react. Shock plays a huge part in what you do (or don’t do). I believe (from what I have heard) that the Transocean guys acted admirably under the circumstances.

Ignore the hyped up and sensationalist journalism, they are just interested in making $$$.

the sea captain Kutchta, is a “person of interest”, in the investigation…He actually jumped back in the water, off a lifeboat, to hand a knife, to those stuck in a raft which was tied to the rig,< I hope for the best for him>

Yes, 200 from 500 blls = 40%. All 100% of it went somewhere into the Macondo well!

What would be more informative to everyone out there would be …
…how did they displace it…
…what did they pump (volumes and fluids) behind the cement…

and…the biggee?

…how do they know (believe) that it actually went into the formation at 18,000+ft (reservoir)?

Again, it’s propaganda at it’s best. And it’s all generated by bp
Alf, I believe, that rov video, was certainly misinterpreted, sensationalism is putting it mildly.
I think there are those people, weaned on Hollywood disaster flicks, who live in a state of perpetual boredom. Geeez, as if there isn’t enough crazy you-know-what going on in the world.
But it was a curious optical illusion, which is why I asked. I have great respect for the ROV operators (or anyone who operates a robot in that way). It seems very disorienting to me.

Intersting… I am not sure we ever talked about a collapsed riser section? Perhaps it was just me that didn’t know a section collapsed or imploded upon the drill pipe.

Matt Simmons Has Died Of A Heart Attack

Tyler Durden on 08/09/2010

CNBC notes the apparent cause of death of the recently popular BP skeptic, and founder of oil company Simmons & Co., was a heart attack. A conflicting report according to WLBZ cites the source of death as drowning.

NORTH HAVEN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Knox County Sheriff's Department says Matthew Simmons, the founder of the Ocean Energy Institute, drowned at his house on North Haven late Sunday night.

Simmons was a leading investment banker for the energy industry and had recently retired to work full time on the new Ocean Energy Institute.

He was a leading proponent of offshore wind power and had started raising money to develop and build offshore turbines.

He and his family had also bought and rebuilt the Old Strand Theater in downtown Rockland.

According to police reports, Simmons suffered a heart attack while in a hot tub at his home on North Haven. An autopsy is planned for today in Augusta, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Drowned in his swimming pool or had a heart attack in his hot tub, either way the Rottweiler that has chewed BP’s ass since Hitler’s birthday is dead.

I bet the champagne is flowing tonight in BP Land.

Rest in peace, Matt.

And now for the bottom kill . . .
